I finished this book purely out of spite.
Maybe - just maybe - it could get 2.5 stars but that was highly dissatisfying and uncomfortable to read.

**3.75**
I enjoyed this more than I expected, especially given that I had read this for the first time back in 2013. Still, the writing for this was way ahead of most YA novels of that time (at least from what I've seen in rereads of other books from that era that I've done recently).
The Luxe is absolutely an early 1900's version of Gossip Girl, which is perhaps why I enjoyed it so much. The drama is overwhelming and most likely borderline comical, but considering I'm a sucker for stories like that, I loved it even more.
I cannot speak to whether or not the plot itself is predictable, due to the fact that I think a majority of it's predictability for me was just me remembering it from when I read it all those years ago. That said, the characters all seem like cookie cutter stereotypes of what characters should be. I kept waiting for them to surprise me, to develop, but none of them really ever did. The pacing also felt off to me, and was excruciatingly slow at times.
Still, I'm intrigued to see where the rest of the series goes and the book did receive a high enough rating for me to continue on so, we'll see what happens next.
Side note I love Henry so much and if Diana doesn't marry him I will.

Actual rating 3.5*
This series seems to be continuously sitting at 3.5 star reads for me. It's nothing special, and is extremely predictable at times, but it's still an extremely enjoyable and fairly quick read. The characters are intriguing and provide duality for both the good and the bad characters. I really enjoy Penelope as an antagonist while Lina makes me want to pull my hair out. Same with good female characters. I love Diana but Elizabeth is so annoying that I was grateful she wasn't in a majority of the book.
My biggest issue honestly was the pacing. The book alternated between being a total drag to super fast paced which was disorienting and made me unwilling to pick it up at times. The ending was interesting enough though that I will definitely be continuing the series.

Enjoyed this one slightly less, the back and forth between Henry and Diana started to get on my nerves. Penelope still cracks me up though I think she’s my favorite character. Intrigued to see how this series ends.
What a wild ending. I’m happy with how Elizabeth’s story ended but the ending to Diana and Henry was so frustrating though i’m pleased for Penelope. In the end I really didn’t care about Lina 🤷🏼♀️
