The Luxe by Anna Godbersen
4.0

**3.75**

I enjoyed this more than I expected, especially given that I had read this for the first time back in 2013. Still, the writing for this was way ahead of most YA novels of that time (at least from what I've seen in rereads of other books from that era that I've done recently).

The Luxe is absolutely an early 1900's version of Gossip Girl, which is perhaps why I enjoyed it so much. The drama is overwhelming and most likely borderline comical, but considering I'm a sucker for stories like that, I loved it even more.

I cannot speak to whether or not the plot itself is predictable, due to the fact that I think a majority of it's predictability for me was just me remembering it from when I read it all those years ago. That said, the characters all seem like cookie cutter stereotypes of what characters should be. I kept waiting for them to surprise me, to develop, but none of them really ever did. The pacing also felt off to me, and was excruciatingly slow at times.

Still, I'm intrigued to see where the rest of the series goes and the book did receive a high enough rating for me to continue on so, we'll see what happens next.

Side note I love Henry so much and if Diana doesn't marry him I will.
