This one was cute albeit nothing super special or memorable, but still enjoyable enough. My favorite aspect was definitely the insiders look into book publishing, I loved getting all the details on that for sure but this one was lacking in the romance department for me. I don’t even need lots of steam in a romance but this one just didn’t even spend much time on romantic aspects at all, you barely even see Savannah and Will together as a couple and I guess I just wanted more of their romance. This may work better for you if you don’t mind lack of romance though, I seem to be in the minority for this one.
This is a tricky one for me because there was plenty that I enjoyed and I was definitely entertained by this one, but there was also plenty that didn’t work so well for me either. The first half really held my attention, Faiza was digging herself a huge hole with all of her lies that I wondered how she would ever climb out of it and honestly, I was totally hooked. I think about halfway in is where I started to lose interest. I think it was too long, seriously one hundred pages could’ve been cut and it would’ve been fine, there were some side plots and characters that just didn’t add anything of value to the story, unnecessary for me personally. I did appreciate what the author was trying to say about money and class and I loved reading about the desi culture as well. But overall this one just ended up being a middle of the road read for me as so many of the plot points were silly and too over the top for me, they ventured into the unbelievable and absurd unfortunately. However the audio narration was top notch so if you’re gonna give this one a shot I can definitely recommend that version.
I know next to nothing about art in general and even less about legitimate forgeries but I sure learned about it after this one. Emma specializes in recreating 19th century paintings and works on commissions for museums and collectors alike. While she enjoys her job well enough she’s always hoped to paint original work and be recognized for it. Leonard is a wealthy collector who takes an interest in Emma and offers her a job. Soon enough she’s living a glitzy life she only dreamed about and she’s making a name for herself as an art influencer and attending glamours events and making new powerful friends. Sounds amazing right? But you know right away that Emma is being interviewed by the FBI about her job so clearly things aren’t as picture perfect as they seem. I thought this one was pretty smart, if a bit predictable but I didn’t even care because it was entertaining and it introduced me to a whole new world. I did listen to the entire thing and highly recommend that, Andi Arndt is one of my favorite narrators, she’s fantastic!
I really like how Lucy Foley manages to take a seemingly basic whodunnit story and put her own fresh spin on it. I don’t think that’s an easy thing to do, especially in such an over saturated market but whenever I finish one of her books I’m always left thinking that she is clever.
This one has several viewpoints and also a multi narrated cast and each narrator was so good. Listening to the audio made for such an immersive experience for me, it’s steeped in French culture and hearing the sometimes French accents of the characters was chefs kiss. The apartment complex itself was a character on it’s own and added such a great sense of place and atmosphere that I felt like I was there beside the characters. It was a bit of a slow burn and towards the middle lost some steam but the ending picked up the pace again and lead to a satisfying conclusion. Overall a solid thriller for me and definitely one I can recommend.
This one came highly recommended to me by @basicbsguide and @itsbooktalk and they both liked the audio version and I’m so glad they gave me the heads up on that. This was such a slow burn and quietly powerful book that had I tried it in print I don’t think it would’ve been as impactful for me. The audio narration was fantastic, so keep that in mind for sure!
There were several super interesting perspectives here that told such a heartbreaking and disturbing story. You have Ansel, a killer on death row scheduled to die in a few hours, his mother Lavendar, Hazel his wife’s twin and Saffy a detective and each point of view was equally engaging for me. I found it thought provoking and powerful, it would be a great book club pick for sure. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A dead reality TV star, a NYC setting and an estranged half sister on the search for answers made up a combination that I could never resist. I’m not always a fan of an amateur sleuth but when it’s done well, I can get behind it and it was done really well here. Lena was the kind of character that I was immediately drawn to, her wit and humor was incredible and she’s also bound and determined to find out what happened to her sister no matter who gets in her way. Part of the reason I was so invested in her was definitely due to the fantastic narration in the audio version, I had planned on alternating between print and audio but Bahni Turpin was so engaging I stuck with audio. I would say this one was twisty in a clever way, no twists just for the sake of being twisty, each turn added value to the story and I always appreciate a smart thriller. Definitely recommended by me especially if you want a thriller that feels fresh.

Just when I thought maybe I needed to take a long break from thrillers I decided to try one more time and picked this one up hoping it would be good. Well, it was better than good for me, it was great and I loved it!!
Synopsis: It’s New Year’s Eve 1999. Y2K is expected to end in chaos: planes falling from the sky, elevators plunging to earth, world markets collapsing. A digital apocalypse. None of that happens. But at a Blockbuster Video in Linden, New Jersey, four teenage girls working the night shift are attacked. Only one survives. Police quickly identify a suspect who flees and is never seen again.
Fifteen years later, in the same town, four teenage employees working late at an ice cream store are attacked, and again only one makes it out alive.
Both surviving victims recall the killer speaking only a few final words... “Goodnight, pretty girl.”
In the aftermath, three lives intersect: the survivor of the Blockbuster massacre who’s forced to relive her tragedy; the brother of the original suspect, who’s convinced the police have it wrong; and the FBI agent, who’s determined to solve both cases. On a collision course toward the truth, all three lives will forever be changed, and not everyone will make it out alive.
Besides the synopsis all you really need to know is that it’s fast paced, gripping and told from several interesting viewpoints that really kept the plot moving and kept me glued to the pages. I just had so much fun with this one and found it to be entertaining, clever and tense.
