This is the second book in a trilogy and while I’m sure it would be ok to read as a standalone you would be missing out because the first book is great! Book one followed one of the Carson siblings, Olivia and this one is her sister Jenna’s story. I have been so curious about her perspective and you get some answers to burning questions here. This is one complex and messed up family and there are a ton of secrets and betrayals to unravel. Much like the previous book you obviously have some suspense but you also get some romance and an emotionally charged plot as it all deals with family drama. This was a great escapist read and I cannot even wait to see how it all concludes in book 3!!
Well this turned out to be much more thought provoking and introspective than I thought it would be. This asked so many questions that will stay with me about marriage and motherhood and being a middle aged woman who is struggling. While there were definitely parts of Merit that I could relate to she was a very morally ambiguous character but while I may not have agreed with many of her choices I found her to be fascinating. I tend to fly through books of the thriller variety but this was just as compulsive for me as any thriller, I really became wrapped up in Merit’s life and couldn’t wait to see what she would do next. I could see this being a great book club pick, especially as a summer choice as it’s light enough you could read it by the pool but it still has a lot of depth and loads to discuss.
Well, it only took sixteen books but the author managed to scare the hell out of me with a prologue alone. It was an emotional sort of terrified too, the kind that really messes with your head and the feeling never left me throughout the whole book so be prepared to have your emotions toyed with! Despite the way I felt tortured I can still say that this was an incredible read and I highly recommend it, just wanted to prepare you for some emotional upheaval.
I usually try and slow down my pace when I read a new book in this series, I like to savor it and really spend some time with the characters but this time I read this in record time over just a couple of sittings. Between that prologue and the fact that there are two cases to draw you in I really couldn’t stop until it was over. Somehow, sixteen books in you are still learning more about Kim, her past is at the forefront of her mind as she works to solve a current case and there were additional layers pulled back that gave insight into who she is. Per usual the story is dark and dangerous but this is balanced out by the humor and camaraderie between Kim and the team where one minute you’re horrified by a new piece of evidence they’ve uncovered or the results of an autopsy reveal a new clue and then the next you’re laughing at something Bryant said to Kim. As much as the characters in this series need a break after what the author has put them through I’m already eagerly anticipating the next book and just know that once again I’ll have a new one to add to my favorites shelf alongside this one!
It’s the time of year where I’m drawn to books that feel like a mini vacation themselves. I want to be swept away to a new location and bonus points if it’s exotic. This one totally fit that for me, I mean just look at that gorgeous cover! Besides a lush and well described setting this explores mother daughter relationships through the eyes of mom Willy May and her daughters, Hilly and Joanne. It’s set in the 70’s and follows all three women as they start a new chapter in their lives and I was wholly invested in all of them. There’s lots of glamour and intrigue, ideal for a summer read and one that I had fun with! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I love when I find a book that I can binge listen to and this grabbed me fast and kept my attention throughout the day I spent listening. One of my favorites, Sophie Amoss narrates so that made it even better for me too.
Synopsis: First Rule: Make them like you.
Second Rule: Make them need you.
Third Rule: Make them pay.
They think I’m a young, idealistic law student, that I’m passionate about reforming a corrupt and brutal system.
They think I’m working hard to impress them.
They think I’m here to save an innocent man on death row.
They're wrong. I’m going to bury him.
I loved that this was a mix between a con artist plot and a legal thriller with a dash of fast paced thrills. I’m not sure I’ve ever read a book with this combo but it definitely worked for me. I was desperate to know how it would all end and despite not being totally surprised, I still say this was worth the read for entertainment value alone.
This is the second book in a series following the Spark sisters and while you don’t have to read the first book to enjoy this one you should because it was cute! I really liked what I saw of London in the last book so I was excited to learn more about her here and I now I like her even more than before. She was very relatable and her flaws were realistic. Her relationship with Jackson was a super slow burn which I’m not always into but it worked for me here. Sometimes seeing characters take their time before jumping into a relationship is refreshing and seems more mature and real to life and I felt that here. Of course HH knows how to write amazing banter and this was no exception. The audio was dual narrated by Jason Clark and Stella Bloom and they both did an amazing job at bringing London and Jackson to life so I can definitely recommend that format. Overall a charming and sweet read with some heat.
