After Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes fell so short for me I was super hesitant to read this one. We’ve all been itching for Haymitch’s story for so long and we were finally getting it…. But would it live up to the hype?
I don’t think it lived up to the hype, I think it blew it out of the water.
I’m not one to get emotional over stories and characters and here I sit, wiping tears off my face while writing my review. My heart cracked after 22 pages, started breaking and crumbling apart over the next 300 pages until it completely shattered into irreparable pieces over the last 42 pages of the book… I knew his story would sad, I knew it would be tough to read, I just couldn’t imagine the absolute heartbreak that Suzanne Collins would deliver us.
The Hunger Games may forever be one of my favorite books, but Sunrise on the Reaping has just shot to the top of the list of books I will never forget.

I’ve never really been a big fan of Matthew McConaughey but I really enjoyed his memoir and it definitely made me like him more now that I know more about him. He is unapologetically himself and has lived an absolutely wild life.
When I prepare to listen to a memoir I always mentally prepare myself for the bad things a person might have gone through but he didn’t have stories like that for us. He told stories of his life and actually gave a lot of really good advice throughout. He made me smile and chuckle and really think and I greatly appreciate him putting his story out in the world!

I’m actually really bummed to say I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I had hoped to and I 100% blame the publishers for this one. This book was marketed as a historical mystery and I don’t think it should have been. Yes, there was a small mystery mixed in but this was 100% straight historical fiction and I would have enjoyed it so much more going into it knowing that. I kept waiting for the mystery to be a bigger part of the story and some intrigue and it never came and it made the book so disappointing to me.
I will also say I didn’t love Martha during this book. I thought she was very preachy at times and very judgmental of women in far worse situations than she was all because she didn’t like their husbands … I think she did a lot of incredible things in her life but those two instances made me really question her.
I do understand why so many people loved this story and it really is a powerful story but it just wasn’t what I was expecting and it didn’t quite have the same impact as a result.

Rune is a witch in a world where witches are hated and are forced to hide. Gideon is a witch hunter, one of the best. When a well known witch is captured, their paths are set in a collision course that could ruin both of them.
Absolutely loved this one!
It was fast paced and exciting right from the beginning and the story never slowed down! I always had to know what was going to happen next and every chapter ended leaving you wanting more. I found the characters to be engaging and entertaining and you couldn’t help but love them both from the get go.
I cannot wait to find out what happens in the next book!

This is, by far, my favorite book in this series!
We see the reemergence of Hazel and Kole as they team up to try to solve the murder of Hazel’s ex husband. Honestly, I loved how rocky their dynamic was from the get go. With the amount of time that passed it would have been unbelievable if they immediately picked up where they left off, no matter what they still felt for each other.
There was so much mystery and intrigue throughout the book that I could not put it down and absolutely flew through it! It honestly felt like I was reading a few episodes of Mayor of Kingstown but told from the PDs perspective of things and I love that.

I liked this one but I didn’t love it. The quick paced second half of the book made up for the slightly drawn out first half.
I thought the premise of the book was a bit far fetched from the get go. It took the main character about 3 chapters to explain her theory while expecting the other main character to believe her … I couldn’t even tell where she was trying to go with it until she fully explained which was a little frustrating.
Once we really got into the story it definitely got better and I definitely didn’t see part of the ending coming at all!

A story spanning decades, the tale of two friends and how their lives unfolded after tragedy struck them at a young age. A story of love and loss and heartbreak and determination to find someone you loved and lost.
I definitely understand why so many people loved this book but I definitely didn’t love it as much as others did.
I thought the first half of the story really dragged at times. The writing could be a little confusing and I found myself going back to reread sentences and paragraphs to make sure I was understanding it all.
The second half of the book was so much better and I found I couldn’t put the book down at times. Saint is such an incredible main character and I loved reading about the life she lived and everything she went through. It made her such a strong person and someone you could really connect with and sympathize with. Patch was definitely an interesting character but I found him to be so selfish sometimes that I never felt invested in him and his plight.
Overall it was a very solid read, maybe a tad longer than it needed to be but a really powerful story.

A combination of cozy fantasy and romance, this is the story of the Petridi sisters and how they had to overcome the heartbreaks of their past to protect their future.
This book perfectly intertwines the intricacies of sisterhood with magic and all consuming love. It starts out as a lighthearted story that grows in depth as you continue to read.
I really enjoyed reading about the different types of magic in the book and the sisters curse. The characters were so relatable and I loved the sisters and their interactions. Maybe it’s because I don’t know how long the story was stretched out over but I did feel like the romance was a little rushed at the end, it reads like a slow burn but I think the book takes place over the course of a couple weeks.
Other than that I enjoyed this one and look forward to reading more!
Shoutout to the author and Dell Romance for sending me a copy of this book!

This was, quite possibly, the best fantasy duology I’ve ever read!
From start to finish this series was filled with action and adventure, love and pain, magic and mystery. You couldn’t help but be invested in the characters and the whole story. I found myself rooting for them and whisper shouting at the pages for them to do certain things. I was so invested in everything going on in the story.
It was an amazing story, that was incredibly written and I cannot wait for more stories from this author!

A riveting thriller from start to finish!
Nothing ever happened in Shelby’s small, Minnesota town until one night she is locked in a walk in freezer and left to die. Now, over a year later, her attacker is back and is set on tormenting her.
I thoroughly enjoyed this one start to finish! It sucks you in from page one and keeps you guessing throughout the book. I had it narrowed down to 2 suspects at the end and I will say one of my guesses was correct 💁🏼♀️ but it wasn’t obvious at all!
I’ll definitely be looking out for more by this author going forward! I really enjoyed the characters and the small town setting and the way the story was told!
