Deeply strange, but somewhat relatable, somehow.

Extremely preachy, but the content is great.

I enjoyed this book, but my children couldn't even let me finish reading it to them. I think it's kind of an adult philosophy/poetry piece masquerading as a picture book.

SO so amazingly deep. I'ts not that common to find such a heavy set of topics handled so well and gently without minimizing their depth in the least. The last 3rd of the book features a slow build to disaster that becomes more and more inevitable, tension drawn out masterfully. World building is entirely on-point, both for historicity and for the fantasy elements.

Adorable early reader graphic novel along the same lines as Clanton's Narwhal and Jelly, though a bit simpler in language choices and artwork both.

This book made my child scared and we had  to skip to the end to put the story to rest and then never read the middle. I read it on my own, to write this review. And my assessment is that rather than an uplifting story about learning the true meaning of bring blessed with more than you need, which is clearly the goal, this is a sad and tense story about how a parent can be cruel and emotionally manipulative even without corporal punishment. It may be an accurate portrayal of how parenting works in some communities, but that should not be held up as good and uplifting. Would not recommend, to anyone.
informative inspiring lighthearted fast-paced

Well presented information, well documented/researched, as well.
