Several chapters in and all I've got is a plucky orphan with no back story who inexplicably wants to see the sea. Give me something to work with here!
turns out to be a spinoff of the school of Good and Evil, and I havne't read them. I think this is meant ot be understandable as a stand-alone, and it is, but I don't feel the draw to the characters as I might if I already knew them.
Nonbinary character was misgendered in the text in which they were introduced, not by a character but by the narrator, and it made me not want to read the book anymore.
So well done, but just too heavy for me at this point in time. I know this is a lot of content warnings, but actually I think the author did a very good job of being gentle with the actually horrific details of her life.
Graphic: Adult/minor relationship, Body shaming, Child abuse, Confinement, Domestic abuse, Emotional abuse, Incest, Misogyny, Panic attacks/disorders, Rape, Sexual content, Sexual violence, Trafficking, Medical trauma, Pregnancy, Injury/Injury detail
didn't grab me, and has too many flat characters at least at this point.
written very drily, unfortunately.
coudn't get into these pictures, it feels kinda monotone somehow.
Too anxiety inducing. I will say that it's depicted quite well!
I can see this plot a mile away, and I'm already bored of it.
