informative inspiring slow-paced

Solid history, makes a point of noting women and people of color who have been historically unrecognized. Stops short of brilliance in that it doesn't do much to be engaging, with images or anything along those lines.
informative relaxing medium-paced

So close! I like pretty much everything that is there, but what isn't there is kind of glaringly not there.

Pros:
- clear language
- useful diagrams / images
- non gendered, uses "people who have vaginas" and "you" as main descriptors
- goes over puberty very clearly
- talks of differently shaped bodies
- non-shamey

Cons:
- doesn't discuss any type of sex beyond piv, beyond a vague "get with the times" from a cartoon character in the margin and a warning in the STIs section that people with vaginas can give each other STIs.
- no mention of pleasure. Closest it gets is the page on masturbation, but even that page is rather clinical.
- gender page explaining identity/expression/trans/etc feels stilted, like it was pulled out of a dictionary.
- no sexual identity page to go with the gender identity page
- doesn't discuss dating at all, which would be fine but feels odd in a book that does discuss sexting and coercion and STIs without any positive examples to go with the negatives
- no mention of miscarriage or abortion in the descriptions of pregnancy and childbirth

Photographs of children of all different genders, just plainly explaining their gender identity and presentation. End notes for adults so they don't stumble over themselves too badly. Very well done.

The characters are very well done, each one fleshed out quite well, and the writing exemplary. I could wish for a bit more plot, but what is there is good. It's mostly just a characters existing story, which is lovely in it's own right, though not usually my thing. Great queer representation, great disability representation, and some lovely nuanced relationships.

A well thought out way to bring this conversation into the classroom or home. Don't be confused by the picture book format, it is for grade-school children.

A very important book to open a very important conversation. Also a tear jerker.

VERY compellingly written, and close enough to my own experience of lock-down in various ways to be relatable. The ending isn't very believable though, with some people growing up more than I would believe possible. Still, I appreciate the anti-toxic masculinity message.

Kittycorn learns to stop being so jealous. Kinda preachy, but there are those who will forgive it because after all there are glitter and unicorns.

Solid picture book, a bit rocky on the beat and a bit long for my taste, but solid.

So deliciously creepy! Give to all the baby goths and watch them grump in delight. Seriously, so so great! And finds the balance of creepy and child friendly quite well! No gore, but suspense galore. Plus, the magical world building is great, and i hope we get more set in this world in the future.
