Gorgeous artwork, lovely intricate world-building, and genuinely loveable characters. I especially appreciated the elders being a gay couple, and how sweet their story is. Can't wait to read more in this world!

Very solid fun! I like the parallels between Sunny and her Grandfather both gaining independence, though I do wish the mother was a bit more of a well-rounded character rather than a simple no machine.

Seemed like it was going to be a gentle midgrade suspense/alien story, but took a turn and, without spoiling the ending, is no longer gentle. I'm left feeling like I do at the end of adult suspense stories, which is to say disappointed at the lack of closure leaving the plot hanging.

I'm torn about this book. It's very religious, and there is not much, if any, detail about any actual incidents, uses metaphors in a way that I think unhelpful to children “we’ve been stepped on” etc. On the other hand, a very important topic. Perhaps a parent who is knowledgeable could use it as a conversation starter with their children.

A bit heavy handed with the "girls can do it too" but I do love the story, and the food!

Resilience when a plan goes awry, leaning on friends and community, nature, and the most gorgeous watercolor illustrations!

The pictures are lovely, the characters believable, and the plot compelling and well paced. This makes me want to read more historical fiction, a genre there not usually my cup of tea.

Very compelling! Reads like fusion cuisine tastes: familiar and fun but with many things unfamiliar and wonderful in it.

Very sweet depiction of a child's visit to India to see her grandmother, and contemplation of the strength that the knowledge of her cultural heritage and family history adds to her life.
