This was a really important and and well done look at the civil rights movement. I often have trouble with nonfiction and memoirs, I found this comic format a really accessible way to consume a true story without getting bored or disinterested or overwhelmed.
This is one of the few YA thrillers that I actually liked. The ending wasn't as good as it could have been, but the build was great. The ending wasn't terrible but an amazing ending could have been enough for me to give it five stars and consider it a favorite instead of just a book I really liked.
This was a little predictable, but that didn't bother me too much because the characters and the writing kept me invested in the story and made it worth it even if I did predict the ending. I absolutely love [a:Amy Rose Capetta|6863139|Amy Rose Capetta|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1500646403p2/6863139.jpg]'s writing and I definitely want to read more of her books.
4.5 stars
This book was almost too much for me but not because of the scary parts, but more because of the direct way it deals with grief. I will definitely continue to think about this book and the things it had to say about death and what it would mean if the dead could come to life. It did take a little bit for me to really get invested, but, once I did, I couldn't put it down.

I struggled with this little just because I wasn't in the mood to read at the time, but I really enjoyed it most of the time that I was actually reading it. I really liked the characters and their development and I was more invested in Gyre and Em by the end than I thought I would be. I also liked the sci-fi elements and wish there were more. I think I'm discovering that I don't really care for survival stories so I didn't love that aspect of the book, but there was enough other stuff to keep me interested. The writing was maybe a little dry for what I wanted in such an emotional, character driven book, but there were moments when it was great. I'm interested to see what this author writes next because I think I could really love some other sci-fi horror similar to this with a different set up and slightly improved writing and pacing.
This had great atmosphere and I really liked the characters. I mostly liked the ending, but there were some little things in the writing at the end that cheapened it and took me out of the story. There was one plot twist that I'm not sure how I feel about (where we find out the main character's sister is dating Fiona. I just don't know how I feel about using someone's identity as a plot twist.) , but that didn't change my rating much. I was surprised by most if not all of the reveals, though. I also really liked the writing for most of the book. It was a fast and engaging read.
I really liked the writing and the atmosphere of this. It was a really fast read considering how long it is. The pacing kept things entertaining without being rushed. I did like the characters, but I would have liked to see their development happen more gradually, especially the relationship between Zoey and Val. I also think the author should have included more of Val's perspective because she doesn't get as much page time as the other two girls. I did appreciate that all three girls are queer (Marion and Val like girls and Zoey is asexual). However, there were a couple scenes where the girls say some mean things relating to sexuality to each other, which created unnecessary drama. They did apologize, but the situation did not contribute anything meaningful to the story in my opinion.
