Sawkill Girls
by Claire Legrand
I really liked the writing and the atmosphere of this. It was a really fast read considering how long it is. The pacing kept things entertaining without being rushed. I did like the characters, but I would have liked to see their development happen more gradually, especially the relationship between Zoey and Val. I also think the author should have included more of Val's perspective because she doesn't get as much page time as the other two girls. I did appreciate that all three girls are queer (Marion and Val like girls and Zoey is asexual). However, there were a couple scenes where the girls say some mean things relating to sexuality to each other, which created unnecessary drama. They did apologize, but the situation did not contribute anything meaningful to the story in my opinion.
