The Luminous Dead
by Caitlin Starling
I struggled with this little just because I wasn't in the mood to read at the time, but I really enjoyed it most of the time that I was actually reading it. I really liked the characters and their development and I was more invested in Gyre and Em by the end than I thought I would be. I also liked the sci-fi elements and wish there were more. I think I'm discovering that I don't really care for survival stories so I didn't love that aspect of the book, but there was enough other stuff to keep me interested. The writing was maybe a little dry for what I wanted in such an emotional, character driven book, but there were moments when it was great. I'm interested to see what this author writes next because I think I could really love some other sci-fi horror similar to this with a different set up and slightly improved writing and pacing.
