I had taken a long hiatus from pure sci-fi, fantasy books, but after reading the promo blurbs for this book I was drawn in expecting a very different read and I was not disappointed. The author's writing style is quite unique and staccato. She pulls you all over, from inside the characters' heads to conversations that seem too divergent for the current plot line, not to mention the way she goes back in time to random events. It seems scattered but it truly is a brilliant way to tell a story. You get sucked in! Every time I thought I could take a break I turned the page and lost more hours to this engaging story. I definitely recommend this one if you want unexpected characters, a story with twists, and an ending that gives you pure satisfaction.

This second installation gave me my favourite kind of character, an anti-hero. It continues from the end of the first book and gives you insight into the new world after the major shift in life at the end of book 1. It is set after a few years have passed, but most of the individuals from the first book are back and playing significant roles. Alongside those familiar names are new ones who show us what life is like on the ground, and dealing with the new entities that are godlings.
New villains, and new plot lines all lead to a climax that made me tear up even as it left me excited for more.
Another must-read from this author who is quickly proving her worth as an author in this genre.
