I'm just really not a fan of C.S. Lewis' fiction works. Love his other writings, but this one was a struggle. It was an assignment for class, which doesn't always deter me, but doesn't tend to help. I also didn't read the first one before starting this. Everything made sense and I enjoyed the theological allegories he drew, but not my favorite of his by far. Just stick with Narnia.

My husband and I have spent a lot of time this past year talking about how ministry HAS to pivot to survive. This book affirmed many of those thoughts and plans while also refining them. I don't love the Lewis and Clark imagery (think it didn't age quite as well as Bolsinger hoped), but it also didn't take away from the reading experience. My ministry is better because I read this book!

I read this book for a class and it likely would have been more impactful if I read it on my own and had the time to reflect on each section instead of reading it for assignments.

Unpopular opinion: I love the Daisy Haites books more than the Magnolia Parks books. I said what I said. These characters may overlap, but the perspectives are totally different. Magnolia and BJ are good, but DAISY AND CHRISTIAN?!?!?! AND JULIAN?!?!?!?! Literally could not read this book fast enough and I would give Jessa Hastings my last dollar to make the next few books happen sooner because I need more of this friend group. They're absolutely toxic as heck, but I love them with my whole heart.

Ngl, this is one of those books that has forever colored how I view the literary/book publishing industry. I know that the odds of it happening are slim, but they certainly aren't zero! 

Listen... I love this book a whole dang lot, but she isn't perfect. The plot and characters had an absolute chokehold on me, but the writing was a bit immature. Did I literally sprint to place a hold on the next one as soon as I saw it was coming to my library's Libby? Absolutely.

I really like Celaena's independence! I think this would have been a 5-star read if I didn't read it right after Fourth Wing. The writing styles felt very similar to me, so I had a hard time keeping them straight and kept getting confused with what plot points and characters went with which book.
