Honestly, I knew what I was getting into. What I didn’t expect was how little plot or general storyline occurred. Maybe it was just me, but this felt like we were throwing in trigger after trigger to make our point in an almost exploitative way.
Truly somehow nothing is happening. Like we started off strong, but then it just stalls for 50% of the book. And you know what? I don't even care how they died anymore. I just want this to be done.
My digital audiobook returned to the library before I finished it. I liked the audio much better than the physical copy, but I’m thinking this book just isn’t for me, sadly.
Everything so far has been around the FMC’s weight. I saw it it the CWs before starting but didn’t think it would literally be the only subject matter. Not my vibe.
I’m all here for a good culty book, but this one just wasn’t it for me. This felt like a bunch of odd speed-dating through her exes with some weird cult stuff bringing them all around. It just feels disjointed to me like the author chopped out sections of books they liked before then taped them all together, but you can still see the tear lines and they don’t fit together perfectly. An adorable cover, but the storyline and characters just aren’t for me 🤷♀️
Do I love James Patterson? Not really. Did I still expect a half-decent thriller from him and Dolly? Yeah, that’s kind of what he’s known for. Instead this felt like a terrible contemporary lit with unlikeable characters and unbelievable back stories. Don’t get me wrong, maybe if it was marketed differently I would have liked it. This just wasn’t AT ALL what I had hoped for or expected and I am so disappointed.
