I enjoyed the groundhogs day plot mechanic and I liked Jack's nerdiness and quirkiness. I also appreciated the medical issue that they delve into (I won't be more specific bc spoilers!). However, I did take issue with how the two main female characters were written and especially with how they were treated throughout the book. Kate felt like the perfect combination of "damsel in distress" and "manic pixie dream girl". Jillian had some back story, but was still lacking as a character. Towards the end, there was a big problem with Jillian not having agency over her story that I found extremely off-putting.

This book was excellent. From the characters and their relationships to the mental health representation to the bisexual representation - it was all so well done. I was also impressed at how well the discussion of polyamory was handled  even though it didn't end with Raphaela/Suzette/Emile V (or triad) which I might have been hoping for!

I don't have the words to articulate the impact that this book had. I have read about inequality in the criminal justice system before, but the way that this book was written - details from personal experience, punctuated by legal facts in a narrative - was so powerful. I would recommend this book to absolutely anyone. Even if you don't know much about racial justice or prisons - this is a great starting point. These are issues that need to be talked about more and addressed. If I could give this more than five stars, I would
