I finished this book in one sitting and wasn’t able to keep my eyes from the page, but I gotta say I don’t think this book is meant to be enjoyed…..more like you’re supposed to be a witness to the events that happen? PLEASE check the triggers before starting.
This was a hella weird read, and was pushing my brain to it’s limit at times lol. I wish there was more I could say to describe it, but everything is so unique to this book that you just need to read it to get it. I will say, this book is not gonna be for everyone.
Han Kang added so many themes, but above all, this book is about familial and societal dysfunction, what happens to a person (especially women) after living not for yourself but just because there is no other option. When you no longer have any control over your life, whether due to a lifetime of societal expectations or pressures from family or spouses, what left is there to do?
Definitely a book that leaves a lasting impression, and one that I’ll be thinking about for awhile. I’m not 100% about my rating yet, and it might end up changing the longer I have to think about the book. Currently, 3.5 stars.

This book was so much fun! Writing is great and Murderbot is an awesome main character. Loved the sarcastic/pessimistic sense of humor. Can’t wait to keep reading the series.

Absolutely adored this book!! I loved it so much, it’s definitely one of my favorite books so far this year, maybe even a new all time favorite. Fun premise, adorable and lovable characters, a really good and inspiring message for young people, and an entertaining writing style.
I love all the characters in this book, Felipe and Ciao were so sweet! The book was funny and heartfelt, even had me tearing up or laughing at parts. Absolutely recommend!

Definitely see why so many people enjoy this series, I just think I’ve aged out of it is all. I might give it another try at some point as it does have a cool premise, but for now I have books that are higher priority. I just didn’t have any desire to pick up the book, even though I was enjoying it while I was reading. I was reading it for a month and only got to 108 pages, and most of that was from the first few days.

My first book by R.F. Kuang, and it will definitely not be the last. From start to finish, I couldn’t keep my eyes off the page, which for me is pretty unusual as I have an awful attention span lol.
As whatupsisi on tiktok said in her review-watch whiteness work! Truly jaw dropping at times, and honestly the audacity from our MC June was crazy and so entertaining. It’s almost scary how well Kuang portrays the mind of an entitled white woman. As we spend more time with June and the book continues, the author purposefully starts to change the narrative surrounding June’s faults in order to either trick the reader-just as June and her publishing team are doing in the story, or create a more grey area. Unfortunately, felt like the ending didn’t do the book justice.
Riveting story and great writing. Highly recommend!

This was a pretty big disappointment. I loved the first one and enjoyed the second, but this third installment fell super flat for me.
I really wasn’t even able to pay attention to most of it, none of it was standing out to me. It also felt VERY copaganda…..like it was really in your face. There’s also a character who I believe is supposed to be Korean (last name is Kim) and he’s a super nerdy scientist who trips over his words trying to speak to the pretty white mc…..and then the narrator voices him super nasally. Weird and uncomfortable for me as a Korean-American.
I don’t think I’ll be continuing the series.

Petition for F.C. Yee to continue making Avatar novels forever. His character work, dialogue and humor, culture and lore are 100% in line with Avatar world. He just does such a great job.
Loved this book, and I think it’s great to see a MC continue to struggle and not always win. Kyoshis ups and down and her character progression is realistic and shows the impact avatarhood has on a person.
Not as much action as the first book, but instead we have more politics and Kyoshi stumbling while trying to figure out the type of Avatar she wants to be.
Great plot, great characters, new favorite villain.

Glad I read it because it definitely had its moments, but overall pretty average.
I wish it had gotten to the horror elements a lot faster. There’s hints here and there, but the weird/horror aspect doesn’t kick in until around 125 pages, and that was what I had heard such good things about so it was a bit disappointing. I enjoyed the reality tv plot line at first, but it dragged on after awhile.
I thought the writing was really well done and I liked the letters and blog posts. Also, a great ending! The problem is, once it got interesting, it ended lol.
