My first book by R.F. Kuang, and it will definitely not be the last. From start to finish, I couldn’t keep my eyes off the page, which for me is pretty unusual as I have an awful attention span lol.
As whatupsisi on tiktok said in her review-watch whiteness work! Truly jaw dropping at times, and honestly the audacity from our MC June was crazy and so entertaining. It’s almost scary how well Kuang portrays the mind of an entitled white woman. As we spend more time with June and the book continues, the author purposefully starts to change the narrative surrounding June’s faults in order to either trick the reader-just as June and her publishing team are doing in the story, or create a more grey area. Unfortunately, felt like the ending didn’t do the book justice.
Riveting story and great writing. Highly recommend!
