a book every teacher, principal, and administrator should read especially now as bullying is coming in every form...

i think i might have found my new favorite line from a book: sticks and stones may break my bones but names will break my spirit

100 different stories about the history of our country...some i knew, some that took the story further for me, and some that were completely new to me...i'm intrigued by the selection of stories that the author chose for the book...stories you would expect are not present and stories you didn't know about are presented...at the end of the book there is a listing of story connections so you could read all of the stories on a particular topic and still have a great experience with this book

p.s. it didn't really take me a month to read this book...i read most of it during a couple of lunch hours but i had a couple of stories to finish up which i did tonight :)

although i applaud judy blume for tackling a tough topic i was not impressed with this book

i felt that her mother was horrible to both of her daughters

for 80% of the book i felt that deenie was amazingly self-centered and whiny and yet we are supposed to believe that in the span of 24 hours she developed this great maturity about her condition and that she was the voice of reason in the story?

i also thought how some of the teachers handled her scoliosis was insensitive

the only people i found who were consistent throughout the story were her father and her sister

close enough and yet far enough away from the percy jackson books to still be interesting

a little dated but i can see the appeal and i can see myself using it in a book discussion group in the future

I'll need to re-read the other Heardman book as I felt there was a little more character development that could have been brought in but maybe they are relying on you having recently read the first book.
