Typical Scalzi. Funny, with relatable characters. A good plot actually, and some nice action scenes. On to the next one!

As good as the first volume. Definitely on the lighter side of things but enjoyable and well paced. Looking forward to the conclusion in the third volume!

3.5 rounded up because I like Scalzi. A satisfying ending character-wise but not as much plot-wise. The pacing was also not as good as in the previous two. Still, an enjoyable read with Scalzi’s always funny writing style.

Excellent take on science-fiction history. The concept of travelling with various authors and being in the middle of their imagined discussions is very clever. It is quite dry and heavy though. As interesting as it is, it wasn’t “fun” to read, but I understand that it wasn’t the objective. The art is great throughout, a bit understated and very clever.

Agh... it's a tough one. On the one hand, it's a classic and it does deal with important issues in a smart way (political freedom, societies, etc.). But on the other, the gender politics are really not ideal, even for the 60's.

The book itself is mostly written in the "loonie" language. Which is actually very smart but also distracting. It was fun at times though, and Mannie is a great character. Mike is also refreshing as a "computer".

So yeah, I have a hard time judging this one. Part of me wants to give it three stars, because I didn't "enjoy" it that much, part wants to give it five because of its intelligence and relevance. So I'll settle for four.

A tremendous read. And I wasn’t expecting that at all, given what was produced from the source material in the XXth century. This is way better and smarter than any “mad scientist” story. It’s also a lot deeper, and is exquisitely written.

Very highly recommended.

I didn’t find the plot as captivating as some of the other books in this series, but it was a very good read nonetheless. Miles is a great character and his supporting cast is fantastic. Bujold’s humour is also great.
