Focused a tad too much on narrating in a cool way. Might come back to it later, but I've said that before and. . .did not do that. Everything about this book felt deeply hollow and maybe even a little forced.

But I might also just be in a slump #allIwanttodoisplaybg3

Was not going to finish this before it was due. Also just wasn’t loving it, unfortunately. Maybe another time, idk

Five Broken Blades

I started it, was not feeling it. This is why I wait until I'm a few chapters in to mark something a currently reading.

Ruh roh…
Could not stand the characters. Plot was slow moving, which I didn’t mind in the Farseer trilogy, but despised with this. Felt very ya, but maybe that was because of how comically evil Kyle was, or how petulant Althea was. Gonna give book 2 a try, but if I hate that too I’m just jumping right to Tawny Man tril.

Dune

I paused it so long I forgot  I was reading it. Really weirdly racist undertones from what I did read, though. "We have to go to this planet to save it's people because they are savage and don't know what to do with the spice. This is why we're invading them, because without us they're just a bunch of idiots!!!"

Oopsies…

I felt absolutely no connection to any of the characters whatsoever, and had absolutely zero desire to get to know any of them. Maybe Kwang was interesting, but he was only interesting because he challenged the main character’s world view.

The writing was clunky, and the world building was more of a full chapter of word vomit. I mean seriously, why do we need a whole chapter of our main character in history class. Why don’t we just have like, idk, something in the back of the book? Or footnotes?

Paladin's Strength

Literally just lame. My loan didn't even end yet, I just don't feel like continuing when I know how it's gonna end like 150 pages before the end.

I'm gonna stop lying to myself that I'll get back to this. I don't know what happened, I love this series, and I was so excited to read this, but I just. . .was not feeling it. I've said that I think Tower of Dawn ruined all other books for me as a joke, but now I'm starting to think it might be true. Maybe I'll actually pick this back up eventually, but that will be at like. Thanksgiving-Christmas.

The Song of Achilles

Madeline Miller

I still love Madeline Miller!! I just
a) hated every character

b) am lowkey in a slump right now

I honestly should have loved this, and I did enjoy it for a little while at the beginning. But it very quickly turned into Patroclus just gushing about how perfect Achilles is, and I felt like we didn’t ever get to know Patroclus, at least not in the portion I read. Maybe I’ll give this another shot when I’m more in the mood for it.
