This book and I are, unfortunately, not meant to be. No matter how much I enjoy the writing of both authors, I cannot find it in myself to really click with this book. Maybe I’ll give it another shot—third times the charm and whatnot—but I honestly doubt it.
Yeah…I was not in the mood for this. This is a soft DNF, I tried, but it was just kind of…I’m not sure. What I told my mom was that it felt like it was trying too hard to be heartwarming, quirky book. I mean, I have no right to say anything, really, because I barely read 10%, but I just have to say: no thanks! 😊
I'm done being nice, as much as I loved Austen's writing (it was stunning), I could not STAND the characters. I know they all had their reasons, but some were just so comically rude and not one bit self-aware. And Elizabeth's mother was just AWFUL, that woman had no manners whatsoever, it's really no question why none of her daughters had any proposals.
I'm just so upset! I wanted to like this so badly, but I just absolutely despised all the characters, even if I understood their motivations and whatnot! I'm still going to check out her other works, though, because I believe in second chances.

After more than a month of promising myself I’d finish it eventually, I have officially dnf-ed this book at about 31%.
I think the saddest thing is that I LOVED the first one, Red Queen was great. It got you invested into the world and the characters, and lord, I don’t even know what happened with this one. Maybe it had just been too long since I’d read Red Queen (like, October), or maybe it was just bad. I found myself not able to stand the main character, Mare, and even less so able to stand the other characters or her relationship with Cal. Everything just seemed so bland in comparison with the first, but who knows. Maybe I’ll end up looking up a synopsis of this one and giving the third a shot.
P.S. this book is a turd on my bookshelf

Emily Henry is a master of her craft. Everything about this book is just so perfectly catered towards me, in ways I cannot even fathom. Does she have a hidden camera in my house, watching me ?
