So far this has been my favorite of the series. It’s very unique from the others as an epistolary novel and really shows the characters well. I liked the mystery of it all and finally seeing the answers at the end. I’m excited to see what the fourth book brings.

It’s definitely a page turner. You keep wanting to see how it’s going to turn out, how it’s going to get weirder, and what else could possibly happen. I wonder why the author chose to make his character Black when I don’t think he himself is black, but other than that I think for fans of really grotesque horror it’s an interesting read.

I think this was my favorite out of all of the series. Part of me wishes all of the books had been written like the last two were, because I feel like the first two books feel much slower and a little more boring than the last two. The series together is so interesting, but I wonder how I would have felt if the writing style was different in the first two books. At any rate, I really enjoyed this series, the characters, and the world-building the author created!

I thought this story was so funny but also unique. I enjoyed the parallels Liu made and the narrative as a whole.

This book is hard for me to review. On the one hand Ketchum is a talented writer and really draws readers into this narrative. It's impossible to look away and yet you keep doing so and then coming right back like the main character does. On the other hand it is very graphic, and horrible, and hard to get through. I really wonder why Ketchum's focus in most of his books seems to be on traumatizing events occurring to women. It's a troupe that really holds me back from reading more horror honestly.

Well written, easy to understand, and well researched. It is a good book for someone wanting to get a general understanding of Ukrainian history.

I think this is the perfect book for someone who wants to get to know more about abolition. I love that the author took time to describe her own history with abolition and how she reached this point. She gives so much evidence and so many personal stories that just really help bring abolition into full view. A fantastic piece of work!

This book was so sweet and cute and fluffy and make me tear up a bit. I really enjoyed all the characters, especially Thimble. It really just lets you cry then gives you the happy ending you truly wanted!!

A 3 1/2 rounded up. I enjoyed the characters quite a bit but I feel like the story was too slow. I tried reading some of the author’s other books before this one and while her writing is descriptive I feel like it really bogs down the story. There’s too much telling and pages worth of monologues as well that slowed the narrative.

Maybe a 3.75 overall rating in my opinion.

The Head: 4/5, weird and creepy and an interesting twist at the end. A good starter.

The Embodiment: 4/5, wild. This story was a trip to get through and I really liked it.

Cursed Bunny: 5/5 I think this is one of the best stories in this collection.

The Frozen Finger: 1/5, I just thought it was boring honestly and I’m not sure what I think was happening.

Snare: 5/5, weird and crazy and a real page turner. Very folktale like.

Goodbye, My Love: 5/5, I think this was my actual favorite. The ending was a bit bizarre but I really enjoyed this story anyways.

Scars: 3/5, not bad, but not particularly stellar either.

Home Sweet Home: 4/5, very much ghost movie vibes. I liked it a lot.

Ruler of the Winds and Sands: 3 1/2, 5, predictable and not like the others in this collection at all. But still atmospheric in a nice way.

Reunion: 1/5, I really just didn’t connect with this one or really enjoy it like some of the others.
