I read this for the "A Genre You Don't Normally Care For" part of my 2020 reading challenge. I'm not usually into science fiction or space or aliens, but this book was fantastic. It's still a bit hard to believe it was 6 year olds accomplishing these things, but I enjoyed the characters and the story didn't end up feeling that far-fetched. The ending surprised me, but it resolved nicely and I'm looking forward to book 2.
I received this book from Goodreads Giveaways in exchange for a review here and on my blog Samwise Reviews. I tried, but unfortunately I could not connect with this book. I found it really distracting that the focus shifted between sisters each chapter and I found it hard to keep them separate. It also felt like there were a lot of racial and social issues tossed in without much introduction or flow, and overall this did not read like a fantasy novel. There were a number of different mythological creatures involved but I never felt like we really got to know any of them, or any of the humans. This book had a lot of potential, but in the end it just wasn't for me.
I read this for the "A Book On The Mensa Reading List for Grades 9-12" part of my 2020 reading challenge. I did not enjoy it. It wasn't complex and not a lot went on, but the entire focus was the stream-of-consciousness style thoughts inside the 12 year old boy's head and that is not somewhere I enjoyed being. I did not see the point to this book.
One of my favorites, even re-reading years later it's just as good as the first time.
I read this for the "Reuse A Prompt From A Past Year (2019 - Set During A Holiday)" part of my 2020 reading challenge. I received this as a Christmas Present from my mom, it was pretty Jesus-centered but the artwork was cute and I liked the characters
I received this book from Goodreads First Reads in exchange for an honest review here and on my blog Samwise Reviews. This was a pretty solid mystery from the start; reading how Joanna figured out clues and connections in the case was very much like reading or watching Sherlock Holmes at his work. This was the fourth book in the series and I have not read the first three, so the relationship between the characters was a bit foggy at first and it took me a bit to figure out who was there and why. Otherwise this read very nicely as a standalone book, the prior novels are not necessary in following the plot. The mystery was well done and kept me wondering until the end, but I didn’t find it immensely captivating.
I received the book for free through Goodreads First Reads. I enjoyed it, the two characters took some settling into and after having read The Last Guest House recently it felt a bit similar. The mystery was well played out though and I didn't expect who did it.
Absolutely loved it. One of my favorites out of all of her works.
