I liked this one even more than the first. I felt like Mana is growing with each book. The side characters are well-developed and act like real people. I enjoyed this adventure and further exploration of what Mana is. I look forward to more in the series.
I enjoyed this view of different women through what they ate. I personally found the first two chapters harder to read, but once I hit Eleanor Roosevelt, I felt like the book hit its stride. Roosevelt, Braun, Pym, and Gurley Brown were all very readable and enjoyable. I'm not sure if there was more information about these women which made it more readable, or if it was my own bias. Either way, it made me think about my own food life, and that was an interesting take on my life I hadn't considered before.
I didn't think i would love this book as much as I did. I had no idea how Applegate would make me fall in love with a tree, but I did. This book seems so simple, but is so good. I think that it will resonate with kids, but I also think I would want to read it at the end of my life, to remind me about history and what we leave behind. I could see some people saying that part of the conflict is easily solved, but I thought the whole thing was well done.
Very good book. I have had "Jolene" stuck in my head for days and I don't even care.
Just as good as the first, if not better. Love Ada and her prickliness.
If you are interested in a retelling of Dangerous Liaisons that is well-written, this is for you. The late 1940s Harlem setting is just icing on the cake.
I don't quite know what to say this one about a girl who eats people she loves. It's mostly been men, except for the first--her babysitter. On the day after her 16th birthday, her mother abandons her. Maren goes on a quest to find her father, and in turn finds herself. I think this book is saying something about the sexuality of young women, but I didn't catch it quite as clearly as others have. It had some parts I skimmed over, but it was mostly very readable. I don't know. It's different.
I loved learning more about Patty, as she was my favorite of the newbies in Ghost. Am excellent story that makes me care about track.
