I’m so glad that my worry about not loving this trilogy was squished. New favourite series.

I watched the movie before going into this book and I 100% prefer the movie. I thought I was going to love this book because of how much I liked the movie but that was not the case. Personally the characters felt like an afterthought that still needed to be fleshed out. The Marine Biologist did get more fleshed out but it took so long that the scraps I was given didn’t help in making me care about the character. Everything else was what kept me reading but had the characters been more fleshed out this could of easily been five stars for me.

I’m going to have to do a re-read of this trilogy after I finish it. The plot twist in book one is still throwing me through a loop especially because it was the last thing I would have guessed to happen. I will also admit that having it in my head that this is a Finn and Poe fanfic also messes with me as their roles are reversed in this trilogy so I keep thinking one is the other. That being said it’s still a good book I just need to re-read the trilogy to get my full thought’s because I really don’t know what to think of the plot twist in book one. I was looking forward to something that didn’t happen and I’m grieving that.

This is a tricky book to review for me personally. 98% of all the horror I read or watch doesn’t affect me so I mostly consume them for the spooky plot and the writing. Basically, I’m extremely critical about things in the thriller and horror genre.

Now this book is tricky because I felt very meh about it most of the time except for a few areas where I scrunched up my nose in disgust. This isn’t a new concept to me so the shock wasn’t there and I do believe that if we end up in a similar circumstance this wouldn’t be that far off. Which usually terrifies people but personally I’m so disconnected from everything that I’m unbothered by that thought- I should really talk to a therapist about this. Emotionally this book would either be 2.5 stars or 3 stars.

But, the reason it’s not getting that low of a score is because of the writing. The way this book was put together and crafted is great. And I want to read more from Agustina Bazterrica. That being said if this wasn’t so hyped, especially by one of my favourite Booktubers aka Katie Colson I don’t know if I would have finished this. I just did not care about Marcos or his family at all.
