Sadly, this wasn’t a favorite of mine. Halfway through, I got bored and couldn’t wait for this to end. The art was great, but I just felt like the story was being repeated.

There’s definitely some things in this that haven’t aged well and I do have problems with the Baron. But, excluding those things it’s been a long time since I enjoyed something so much that I wanted to go out of my way to write an essay about it. I want to buy another copy of this book, annotate it and analyse everything. There’s a reason this is such a classic sci-fi and I’m honestly annoyed with myself for taking so long to read it.

P.s. If you have trouble getting into this in the beginning Dune part one might help you understand better. I haven’t watched the original adaptation in a decade so I can’t speak for that one.

The writing style was not for me. And I felt like if I continued reading this it would be one of my worst books of the year because of it.

I would love to say that I’ll remember the romance of this book but that’s not what I’m going to remember. What I’m going to remember is the discussions and representation of mental health. I want to give this a higher rating because of the mental health aspect but the fact that everything else felt so forgettable I can’t. This was a good time but the overall story didn’t grip me.
slow-paced

This took me a lot longer to get through than I thought it would but going into a 451 page book after being in a bit of reading slump probably wasn’t the best idea. But, fantasy is currently all I want to read. Actually, I went into this expecting more of a romance subplot which is currently what I’ve been wanting to read.

This is a book I can definitely see myself re-reading in the future mostly because I went in thinking this was a fantasy romance and being in the mood for one so I feel like it messed with my experience with this book. This wasn’t a bad fantasy but please don’t recommend this as a fantasy romance. The sequel might classify as that but this one doesn’t. This is more of a fantasy with a minor romance.
