I went into this expecting not to like it as I didn’t think the gods added anything to the first book and even took away from it. Felt meh about the book for 51 chapters. After finishing this book I believe this should of been a standalone and not a duology. The gods felt so out of place at the end of the first book and I feel like they should have been apart of an entire different book. The ending of Divine Rivals and this book honestly feels like an AU fanfic.
I would skip this book and view Divine Rivals as a standalone it doesn’t add anything to it.
If this wasn’t a sequel to Divine Rivals I would probably give this a 4 star but because it is I can’t hide my disappointment or the fact that I’m going to pretend this sequel doesn’t exist.
I have to admit it’s kind of both interesting and weird to be reading these books after at least 15 years. But, when I did read them originally it wasn’t in order and I adored these books. This was a series I wanted to revisit as an adult to see how I feel about them now and while I can poke holes in this I did enjoy it. And I would definitely recommend this chapter book series.
When I was younger the colored words, different fonts and words having movement helped me stay focused on reading when I didn’t care much for it. In a way this series is what made me fall in love with reading.
