I’m kind of wondering if I’m heading into a slump or if it was just the book. At 41% of the way in I mostly felt meh about the book. I didn’t really care for any of the characters either. And after finishing it I’m glad that I didn’t purchase this like I’ve been thinking about doing since April.

This was the first time I had heard of the fire and it’s clear that the author did quite a bit of research on it. If this book interest you I would still give this a read as I think it’s more of a me thing.

This made me want to go back down the rabbit hole of researching the 1800s and reading books set in that time period after this though. Not so much because of the story but because of the fire and realising how little I know about that time period.

This friendship was so toxic and I honestly could write an essay about the metaphors in this book. This took me quite a long time to get through as I ended up soft DNF’ing this for a few months purely because I was starting to lose interest and thought this was just going to be okay.

I can’t say I liked the characters but the plot was great.

Continuing on with my re-read of this series after not reading it for probably 15 years. I liked the first book better than this one but it was still a good read.
adventurous slow-paced

I first started reading this series around when the 3rd or 4th book was released back when I was 7 or 8 years old. At the time I absolutely loved this series and considered it a favourite. And while I still greatly enjoy the series the long waited ending was honestly a bit of a let down.

I enjoyed most of this volume but the last 20 or so pages just weren’t it. I know what was trying to be done with them but I’ve never been a fan of that. And I will admit that a few things that happened I wasn’t fond of and felt like it was written in to end this quickly. Tbh this should probably be a 3 star but it’s been a bit of time since I read the previous volumes so it didn’t bother me as much as I think it would otherwise.

Erik Larson’s writing in this was amazing and I look forward to reading his other works.

I only knew the bare minimum about the Lusitania before I went into this and I’ve come away knowing so much to the point where I do not feel the need to research it more.

All I can think of is the movie The Duff which is a 10/10 romcom. I really want to watch that movie now. Again with the focus on big hands. Okay, Wes is *chef’s kiss*.

I honestly went into this thinking I wouldn’t really care but it won me over pretty quickly.

Thoughts while reading: This is making me miss swimming so much. And reminding me of when I used to do a lot of research on merfolk. Jim🤮.
Oh shit. She’s going to sew her legs together isn’t she.

There’s just something about reading about swimming and the smell of chlorine that brings me back to some of my favourite memories and comforts me. The writing was phenomenal and I look forward to reading more by Jade Song. This was a great blend of literary and horror. The ending.

I honestly don’t know what to say about this book other than I was disappointed. I was expecting there to be more of basically everything when we actually got to the moon. The premise was interesting but that’s honestly the only thing I can say good about this book. It was just okay overall.

I didn’t like the characters either and in all honesty if the characters had been likeable I probably would of liked this a tiny bit more.
