This book was pretty dry - I was disappointed. Billie is my favourite musician and I really wanted this book to be great. It has inspired me to read her autobiography though!

2.5

I am struggling to explain how much I loved this book. It was so good! And it was a totally random find - I love when that happens.

Mr. Penumbra’s is a mystery about a tiny bookstore in San Francisco that is much more than it seems. There’s secret societies, the almighty but benevolent power of Google, typography love and books - LOTS of books. So many things! And I loved them all.

Sloan has created a beautifully textured world with a fantastic tone, and yet it is firmly rooted in reality. I guess you could say it has a bit of a Hogwarts vibe to it. It was so inviting that I just whipped through the story in a day. It’s a really uplifting book with a satisfying ending. I was definitely in the mood for something like this.

I’ve given into the hype and have finally read Stalking Jack the Ripper. It was… not bad. Ultimately not my cup of tea, but entertaining at least!

Maniscalco has written a creative and engaging story, complete with excellent descriptions of the setting and characters. I whipped through the book pretty quickly - pacing was definitely not an issue.

But a few things didn’t sit well with me. Audrey was annoying. She was cocky and yet, not at all bright - the simplest of things went over her head. The romance felt forced, with no sparks at all. And it was really dark and gory. REALLY gory, to the point of being excessive. I’ve read a lot of horror but this was a level above the average. But at least the twist at the end was a surprise.

This book is me. Like looking in a mirror.
