I am struggling to explain how much I loved this book. It was so good! And it was a totally random find - I love when that happens.

Mr. Penumbra’s is a mystery about a tiny bookstore in San Francisco that is much more than it seems. There’s secret societies, the almighty but benevolent power of Google, typography love and books - LOTS of books. So many things! And I loved them all.

Sloan has created a beautifully textured world with a fantastic tone, and yet it is firmly rooted in reality. I guess you could say it has a bit of a Hogwarts vibe to it. It was so inviting that I just whipped through the story in a day. It’s a really uplifting book with a satisfying ending. I was definitely in the mood for something like this.
