My Lady Jane is a comedic (and romantic) retelling of Jane Grey's nine-day rule of England. Normally I would enjoy this kind of story, and the plot definitely had great potential. The characters were interesting, although rather light in depth or development. It even had a fantastic element to it, featuring characters who could turn into animals. I liked the lighter tone of the story, and the literary Easter eggs were fun - but the narrators completely ruined it for me. They were irritating, overly sarcastic and cutesy, and often just pulled the story out of the time period completely. The constant interruptions were totally unnecessary - the story would have been light and humorous enough on it's own. It was totally overkill, and has turned me off from reading the next book in the series.

I can't believe it has taken me this long to finally read (and review) Rebecca. I should have read it years ago - it blew me away! This is a fantastic, gothic story with a narrative that creates a feeling of dread every step of the way. The characters are vivid, with some very ugly personalities on display. Oddly though, the male lead Maxim seems to be the only character that lacks depth. The setting description is beautiful - I could picture Manderley perfectly. The plot itself had a couple of huge twists that I didn’t see coming (although I did predict the ending)! Overall, just a stunning classic and I definitely recommend it.
