2.5/5 stars. Heartless was added to my Goodreads TBR as soon as it was announced - and I was so excited to receive it in an Owlcrate a few months later. I really enjoyed the Lunar Chronicles, and the quality of a Meyer's book is usually a safe bet. Unfortunately, reality fell far below my expectations.
First - the good! Meyer has created a fascinating world with nods to Alice in Wonderland throughout. Her descriptions of the baked sweets are heavenly - guaranteed to make you hungry. But description can only take you so far. The relationships and characters felt very flat and I just couldn't seem to care for Cath or her growing romance with Jest. Their emotions rang hollow, and Cath's rage by the end felt false. The pacing was also off - it was far too slow, leaving me bored at times. Getting through the whole book was a bit of a slog.
I'm so disappointed, considering how much I've enjoyed Meyer's previous work. I guess you can't win them all.

This is a really fun book of Doctor Who poetry, with awesome illustrations. I’d recommend it to any fans of the show, and poetry lovers as well.
This book is incredible - I’ve been struggling to find the words to describe it. It’s a beautifully written, powerful story that I think everyone needs to read.
I just got home from watching The Post (it was so good)! And now I’m in a Tom Hanks mood. Did you know he could write fiction? And really well, too. This collection of short stories is sharp, witty, thought provoking and very entertaining. Hanks collects typewriters and each story starts with a picture of one from his collection. Most of the stories feature typewriters in them, from a single sentence to even shaping the entire plot of a few. I loved it. And I’m seriously jealous of his collection!
