That was not at all what I was expecting. Of course, being late to the party, I had read plenty of reviews and heard many ways in which I might like or dislike this book. I decided to go in with a blank slate, ignoring everything I'd read/heard. I was drawn in from the start by the very Beauty and Beast-ness of it all. The world building was captivating, I'm obsessed.
As I'd hoped, the fantasy was high and the romance was kept to a minimum. I barely rolled my eyes, hahaha. There were a few words used to describe Tamlin's lust that gave me the ick, but after reading Fourth Wing, this was pleasantly minimal and tasteful. I am after story, not smut, but no shade to those who live for the filth ;P While immersed in the story, I found myself so captivated by my surroundings that I could hardly predict what was to come on the next pages.
I would love to hop right into the second book, but with thousands of pages to go before the end of the saga, I fear series-fatigue will get the best of me and so, a palette cleanser will have to do!

How do I even describe how this book made me feel?
As a parent, I adored the parts that he spoke about his family, his children and their discovery of music. His uncertainty in how to teach them and the realizations that came after. His dedication and how they inspired him. What beautiful moments.
Dave's memories of being a child, the artists that inspired him, his discovery of the underground music scene and all the inspiration that followed had me reminiscing of my own adventures following local bands around small dingy venues and the feelings associated with it. I wanted to pick up my guitar. (And I did for the first time in a while!) Over and over while reading this book, all I wanted to do was pick up an instrument and write a song.
What a life Dave has lived! The stories he told of his past bands' adventures, with Scream, with Nirvana, the birth of Foo Fighters, his friendship with Paul McCartney, etc...I felt while reading that we were only scratching the surface of all the tales he has to tell and found myself hoping that he would write more books, tell more stories.
My heart broke throughout and during the last moments while finishing this book as Dave described his friendship and brotherhood with Tayler Hawkins, knowing that not a year after this book was released did Dave lose yet another piece of his heart with Taylor's passing. His heartfelt words about his friend in his closing remarks had me tearing up knowing what the future held while Dave wrote those joyous words.
This book gave me a renewed sense of inspiration in music. Many times while reading, I could hear the music playing. It had me thinking about my own childhood (& adulthood, admittedly) fantasies of becoming a musician, being called up on stage, hanging out with a Beatle or Jean freaking Jett. Hell, after reading this book I even feel the need to get my hands on one those Joan Jett Barbie dolls...I checked eBay, they're very expensive :(
Final words: I never wanted this book to end and I pray to the gods that there will be another.

This book is fucking cool.
No distractions, no unnecessary information. Just descriptive enough to make you feel the fear, anxiety, nerves and hate our characters feel without making you jump through hoops to get there.
Furnace is a private penitentiary locking up boys and subjecting them to violence from each other and unknown horrors from a monster of a warden and his evil lackeys. It's hell and AGS takes you right down in there with our main character, Alex, as he navigates his new existence.
Early in the book I found myself thinking: where do the girls go? Is there a special prison for them? I thought about what a nightmare that would be and then forgot about it as Lockdown proved to be impossible to put down! Great story. Never a dull moment. And I NEED to jump right into the next one!

Best Amulet book yet! We learn a lot more about the Elves in this installment and our heroine is becoming stronger and more skilled! And apparently I liked it so much that I'm yelling! ...!
So f-ing relatable. Suggested by a friend who knows me well! Love Mindy's writing, easy reading, you can hear her voice which makes it that much more entertaining!
