so absolutely strange and perfect. the way elise’s anxiety functions pretty much nonstop is eerily similar to mine. so much of her narrative was familiar and kept me nodding along in validation up til the end.
the girlies that get it, get it.

as a person with adhd, eating books would solve sooo many personal skill issues for me
as a horror lover and bug guy, i was hyped up for this!
here’s what immediately lost me:
here’s what immediately lost me:
- man writing teenage girls
- evil billionaire fucking with science COULD have been cool if he was motivated by like, extreme passion for entomology and maybe this is revealed later in the book, but i couldn’t get past the weird sister shit
- characters not interesting enough to me in the first 100 pages and i don’t think that’s asking too much!!!!!!
ik everyone else has already said but, you know what? GOOD FOR HER
i was so excited about reading this that i mistakenly neglected taking my time and i do think that skewed my perspective a bit.
there’s a lot going on here, both in plot and prose, that i feel is deserving of thoughtful and evenly paced engagement. there were a few things i missed and thus the effectiveness of them fell short.
all that being said, this is a book i’m still thinking of well after finishing (much like tender is the flesh) and i’m looking forward to giving it a second read so i can be properly heartbroken.

I got a lot of feelings i think
slow-paced
can’t go wrong with a man hating lesbian vampire
(except i thought this was so slow and 70% of lenore’s thoughts should have been replaced with more gay content but then am i no better than a man for thinking this?!)

i don’t know how to review this because it feels too personal, but at the same time that’s the very reason i enjoyed it
i was struggling with the pacing and then it was overdue at the library:( but i would like to revisit eventually
