Lowkey still crying while I write this review. So everyone knows how Haymitch ends up, and you may think that knowing this will make this book easier and that is where you are WRONG. This book was absolutely brutal. Seeing Haymitch as a young happy kid with a loving family and girlfriend was nice in the beginning though.
I feel like this book also purposefully made the deaths of the younger tributes more brutal; Ampert and Wellie's deaths were so messed up I am sick. Despite all Haymitch did to defy the capital, I was hoping he would at least get to see his family one more time.. but maybe that would have been worse. It is also so sad that he was best friends with Burdock, and in an alternate universe he could have been closer to his family, like an uncle to Katniss (': but we still get that I guess. What's even more painful is the fact that no change happens until 25 years later so he had to suffer for so long. I wonder if Haymitch ever told anyone else what actually happened in the arena aside from Katniss and Peeta later; like if Louella's family ever got to know. Also the fact that his Ma and Sid never got to know what he did.
Everything I have to say is a spoiler but know this book is so good and so tragic.

This book was not what I thought it was going to be! I totally thought vampires would be in it but the alternative was not disappointing. The concept was cool and different, I also think the setting is unique. I loveddd Luzia with her personality and her situation; I love that she doesn’t give up and it was refreshing to have a FMC that wasn’t looked at for her beauty. I also loved Santángel and the fact that he
seemed to want Luzia more than she wanted him! That was fun and different too.
Also “El Alacrán” is such a dope nickname. A lot of this book felt slow and dragged out but at the same time i feel like this could’ve been a series so that certain concepts could be expanded on. I also didn’t love the heavily religious aspects but get that it’s a big part of the book. I liked the ending but kind of wanted more!

I totally thought all my questions would be answered in this book until the shit show that was the end. I really liked learning more about before area X and potentially what caused it. I also liked learning about characters present in the previous books that we didn’t know were connected until this one. Lowry’s portion was like a fever dream but it was so funny.
The amount of fucks that man spewed omg I didn’t know when it would end. I enjoyed his part even tho a lot of it was nonsense; I wish more was revealed but I am somewhat satisfied with how entertaining and messed up it was.
Probably would have rated this higher if it ended on a note that makes sense.

Not what I expected from this book at all! I thought there was going to be some supernatural aspect given the title but that’s my bad for going in blind. The multiple POVs was nice but also hard to keep track of when it kept jumping between timelines. I liked the investigators pov a lot and kept wanting to find out more.
The way Bear died was sad and I feel really bad for Alice, if only the other Peters were like the first Peter. Major plot twist with Vic and TJ tho! That was interesting I didn’t expect them to know what happened.
A good read but I was hoping for better!

Ahhh I loved this couple a bit more than Alexis and Daniel but their communication issues were so frustrating. I loved the focus of Jacob’s anxiety and Bri’s mental health issues as well. I liked seeing them work with each other and not make each others problems to be nothing. I also like that they’re both doctors.
I was so frustrated with how long Bri just thought he was still in love with Amy and he just wouldn’t tell her everything?! like please talk you could’ve been in a real relationship so long ago. I also loveee a happy ending but damn these books move fast like boom you have a baby now and boom marriage. Jacob is so great tho like mans donated an organ for her brother and didn’t want her to know that’s insane.

Another fun mystery solving book with Maomao. I love how her brain works and I love the development with her and Jinshi! I can’t wait for more.

I really love how this author writes nature, it’s so descriptive and scientific it scratches my brain. This book helped explain a couple things like how area x started and before area x. It was honestly really sad in most aspects especially Sal and Gloria’s story. So many other crazy things were revealed like
how area x distorts time so 2 weeks outside it was 3 years for Grace inside area x, and how the biologist wrote that she had been there for 30 years and eventually became a monster. There’s still so many things that aren’t fully answered and I don’t think they will be.
My rating is a bit low because I found myself zoning out at some parts and felt it didn’t answer all my questions but other than that I enjoy this series.

A nice prequel to the series and a good explanation for how Pop decided on her project. The only thing I didn’t like about this was that Pip seemed a bit rude and like she didn’t care about her friends which was not the impression I got in the other books. The 1920s murder mystery was fun tho!

The first half of this book was SO good, I thought it was better than the first and second book. But then the second half kinda ruined it for me or at the very least the ending wasn’t satisfying. I understand Pip went through something traumatic that altered her way of thinking but it felt toooo off for her character. I know she’s smarter than how she acted
the pip I knew would not have turned back to kill Jason even if she was so angry and out of it cause it’s not the smart thing to do. I would’ve liked it so much better if she proved he was the DT killer, there was so much evidence of what he did to her the police would’ve had to believe her. I didn’t like that she strayed away from clearing Billy either and I wish it went in that direction instead. This is further proven by the fact that the police do find evidence after Jason’s death that shows he’s the DT killer sooo. I did enjoy the parts of her covering the murder with Ravi tho. Along with this it was dumb of her to cut off everyone she loves and would paint her in more of a bad light than if she just acted normal?? Even if she thought the police would come for her, the evidence led to Max more so she should’ve just gone with that and continued to live her life; if shes smart enough to get away with murder she would definitely be smart enough to come up with another plan
. I am still going to give this a 4 star because there were many parts that were good even if I didn’t like the way it went.
