Regency mystery with a kick ass heroine and DRAGONS! Great fun and well written. What's not to like?

Twisty and mysterious with a varied cast of characters. Unputdownable.

Loved this book. Great premise and a wonderful cast of characters who reacted in a very human way to the difficult and dangerous situations they were out into. There were echoes of today with the all-seeing "Thunderhead", and the political machinations and parties were familiar, albeit in an unfamiliar setting.

An interesting blend of a modern and medieval story, with the author popping up in her own novel to talk to the characters and berate them for not doing as they're told. I was much more invested in the medieval story than the current day one, but overall this was an enjoyable read.

I enjoyed this much more than on my previous read: I think the audio format is more interesting and maybe easier to follow. This is an inspiring reminder of the best of humanity.

I slogged through this, and only finished it due to sheer stubbornness. It felt very long and quite political, and bad things happened, but I didn't care enough about most of the characters to mind much. I'll stick to the musical!

A beautiful book with characters I loved and cared about, and a ghost who was both irritating and believable. There's some very hard stuff going on, but it still left me with positive feelings about the resilience and goodness of people.

This was quite an enjoyable read with some fun wordplay. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I had read it as a child and had the nostalgia factor added in.

. The attitude to the local people is very much of its time, quite condescending and superior. Still this was an atmospheric and enjoyable read that kept me hooked.

This was a fun period piece, very much of its time. Despite the cover, it's not really a Christmassy read, although the murder itself takes place at Christmas. I didn't find the characters particularly well fleshed out, but I was still interested in the mystery,
