A typical Mary Stewart romance with a beautiful girl in an exotic location running into trouble. There's a handsome man who might be a villain, but of course turns out not to be . The attitude to the local people is very much of its time, quite condescending and superior. Still this was an atmospheric and enjoyable read that kept me hooked.
