I feel bad giving Shakespeare only 3 stars, but the plays are made to be watched, not read. I would never have finished it without having seen a film version, but I'm glad to have read it.

Slightly claustrophobic, tense read. Well-written characters with flaws (a lot of them!) Perhaps it might have merited the full five stars if I knew Shakespeare better, as that was a big part of the plot.

Informative and interesting, but the style was very "bitty" going to and fro between different accounts, and so hard to keep track of.

A fun quick listen. I was rooting for the main character all the way through.

Beautifully illustrated and told story of a Jewish girl in France during the German occupation. Very moving. Not spoilt by having to continually look up translations because of my rusty schoolgirl French.

Another enjoyable fill-in for the Chalet School series. Loved another look at the School in its early days, and (of course) the Guiding content. I did feel that the plot lost its way a bit at times, with ideas introduced and not well followed through. Still, I liked the characterisation, particularly of Grizel and Stephanie.

A really enjoyable re-read. The language is a little flowery for my taste (I'm comparing it to Jane Austen), but does not detract from the narrative. You can't help but root for Jane and even for remote and forbidding Mr Rochester.

This took me forever to get through, but it never felt like a chore. The author's own narration made the text feel alive and personal. Fascinating insights into the culture and mythology of the indigenous American people and into nature and mankind's effect on it.

A modern retelling of a myth. Although my knowledge of Greek mythology is minimal, this did not affect my enjoyment of the book, except to make me want to find out more.
Circe is a wonderful character, not perfect, but thoroughly sympathetic, and the writing makes the magical/mythological storylines not only believable but alive and relevant. Great cast of supporting characters, and one of the most satisfying endings to a book I have ever come across.
