A wonderful book full of historical detail and realistic characters, that had me rooting for them right from the start. I enjoyed the dual timeline structure - knowing what was going to happen but not why or how.
I feel I may have missed out on some details by listening to the audio while doing other things, so I may well re-read this in the future.
It made me want to re-visit Bletchley Park!

The Wind off the Small Isles is a typical Mary Stewart romance. Quite predictable, but handled with lightness and humour. Very sweet. Definitely the better of the two stories.
The Lost One was apparently first published in a magazine, and it showed. Fast=paced improbably adventure. Fun. but lacking in substance.

Lovely fill-in set towards the end of World War II. I love the Bettany family, and it's great to see more of them. Wonderful handling of the family dynamics, and some lovely EBD-style adventure.

I love the Chalet School, particularly in its early days, and this will always be one of my favourites. Eustacia is a little prig, though you know from the first that the School will reform her sooner or later. Interesting to read an unabridged version for the first time, and to notice things I'd never seen before. (Though this did include a totally unnecessary use of a racial slur which I think should have been excised. It might have been in common usage in 1930 when the book was first published, but I personally don't think a modern reprint should include it.)

An enjoyable addition to the Chalet School annals . Lots of Guiding, which I liked, and nice to have a peek into the staffroom now and again. Loved the VE Day scenes.

A wonderful read about an aspect of World War II I knew nothing about. The fact that Brownies and Guides, played a major part in the story was a great bonus to this Girlguiding leader.
The characters were believable and well drawn, and the alternating chapters between the teacher and a child gave a good view of the situation from different points of view.
There was so much in this story that was sad and devastating, but so much of hope and inspiration too. An insight into the best (and worst) of human nature and into how resilient people can be.

This was an enjoyable, sometimes challenging and thought-provoking story of Mexican immigration to the USA during the Depression. I enjoyed Esperanza's transformation from spoilt little rich girl to responsible caring teenager, and the emphasis on family and on appreciating what we have.

As a fan of Mary Oliver, I was interested to read another collection of American poetry based around nature and the land. This did not disappoint. It was more farm-centric and human-based than Oliver's poetry, and I enjoyed that aspect of it. Beautiful and thought-provoking.

This book has grown on me over the years, and I really enjoyed this re-read. Loved the humour this time around. I love Henry Tilney, and Catherine makes me smile.

I loved this book and its heroine, Lois. I loved the backstory about the Mazg. Funny, quirky and nerdy. A great, fun read.
