This was actually excellent. It was packed with adrenaline and action towards the end with twists and turns. At first you thought you would be satisfied at the end, then you weren’t, and then you were all over again. Some of the technical terms for mountaineering had me feeling a little lost and I kept wanting to rename crampons every time I came across the term. I will very likely read other books by this author.
slow-paced
This was a little bit of a struggle to get through at times. Perhaps it could have been 30-50 pages shorter. This was the first book I read by this author and while it had some exciting moments, a lot of the book dragged for me. I enjoy both ya and na fiction and thought this would tick all the boxes but I still felt like the pacing wasn’t working. I think the twist reveal was the most exciting part of the book but then the alternating perspectives made it hard to follow the big climatic scene.
Book 27 in the series. By the time you have reached book 27 you are pretty sure that you enjoy the series. As Andy keeps hoping to retire he still gets yet another case. The cast of characters remains enjoyable as does of course Tara, the worlds greatest dog. In this one he needs to defend a famous actress and did you know they dated in high school? The pacing is good and the mystery is enjoyable.

Flaws of characters a main focus:

Poirot is getting older and still wearing ridiculous shoes but making sure his mustache is impeccable. Enjoyed this reading prior to the movie coming out later this year. I always have enjoyed Agatha Christie books. No Hastings which means I was able to enjoy without thinking the narrator was being a twit. Recommend as always.
Pro: funny. Con: use of the word panties 🤮. The narrator is the same narrator from the haunted guest house series so I kept waiting for her to talk to Paul and Maxy and solve a mystery. And also for maxy to just be awesome. I have had this sitting in my unread audiobook pile for a couple years and I am glad to finally get around to read it as the newsletter and conversations made me laugh. Plus I also would be ok reading the book within the book about the house that eats the philandering husband.
Dr. Annie, you are a mess ma’am. This was an enjoyable story though a little predictable. Woman gets drunk, sends group text to 39 men proposing, two say k let’s do this, and then secretly gets the hots for the 27 year old bartender she let move into her basement after meeting him for about 2 minutes. Yes, that old tale. There were a few parts that made my laugh out loud. Overall, a book that was enjoyable but not something I’ll reread over and over unless I want to remember what it’s like to feel turned on while washing skunk stink off your dog.
And so another Emily Henry book that I of course love. At times I laughed out loud (and when I told my husband what was so funny he almost always replied by calling me weird.) This is one of those stories where you want to cheer on each and every character you come across. The touching moments mesh with the laugh out line moments about Bigfoot erotica…sometimes all at once. It was a great read.

So it is a short little Christmas novella in July. A predictable light hearted story about the one that got away. I started and finished on the same day and it was a nice palate cleanser after that last audiobook. I definitely am glad to go back to meddling grandmas and postmen versus starfish faced monster humans. (I am still not sure.) I think you can listen to this book year round so don’t feel limited to one month out of the year.
What did I just listen to? Although at the end when the author shares that his patreon followers decided some of the options it made more sense. How else do you go from a gory murder fest to……people that have the face of a star fish?? There were a lot of pov and with one narrator it was sometimes hard to remember who was telling the chapter. even without the fact that sometimes the narrator just ended the chapter by dying The murder parts were gory and the ….starfish heads were just weird.
