I first read this in 2019 and even though I enjoyed it, I didn’t have a particularly great time while reading. My mental (and physical) health weren’t the greatest back then. I had a hard time getting through this book because I was struggling with myself so much. That’s why, at the time, I wasn’t able to appreciate this for the masterpiece that it is. I’m still not quite where I wanna be, but after a lot of time and hard work I am doing much better now. That’s why this time around I was able to give this book my full attention boy did it deserve that 🫢 I had SUCH a good time. I love all the characters so much, I don’t even know how to express myself through words. Matthias and Nina are my faves but Kaz and Inej also kill me and I can’t wait to read more about Jesper and Wylan 🥹
For the reasons mentioned, I never got around to reading Crooked Kingdom last time. So my goal is to not leave that another 4 years and just make it my next read right now 😇

I listened to the audiobook and the best thing about it is Sir Kenneth Branagh doing all sorts of funny voices and accents for all the animals 😅 imagine, an elephant with a Scottish accent 😂
I’ve seen the Narnia movie many many times over as a kid and always loved it, so it was so cool to learn about the origins of the country and Aslan and the witch!
I knew that there were going to be some biblical references (I knew Aslan was a representation of Jesus/God), but it was
very heavy on the Christian analogies. Forbidden fruit, temptation, all that sort of stuff. It feels like the author’s main goal was to teach children that if you believe in god everything will turn out alright. Which didn’t sit quite right with me because I’m a devoted atheist 🙈 still, it was a lovely little story. I’m excited to read the rest of the series.
Also, uncle Andrew is a nasty piece of work, he deserved to be planted in the earth like a tree 😂

Liked this a lot more than I thought I would! The Austen references were everythingggg 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼 a man who willingly watches P&P adaptations and prefers the 2005 version? SIGN ME UP 🫢 the spice was also very good. I wasn’t as attached to the characters as I would like to be, like, they didn’t really give me the butterflies in my stomach that I like to get from romance novels. But there were still a lot of cute scenes. Sometimes they were toothrottingly cute in a good way and sometimes less so. Like, I can handle cute, but even I have a level where I can no longer suspend disbelief 😬😂
I realised I’ve been using the feeling of butterflies I’m my stomach, you know, the tingly feeling romance novels can give you, to describe how I feel about romance books SO MUCH lately that I might just have to introduce a new rating system for myself?
Here we go:
🦋🦋🦋 (so like 3 ⭐️ on the butterfly scale 😂)

I enjoyed this SO much! Such a shame it wasn’t a full book or there probably would’ve been more spice 🤭🌶️ still, I really enjoyed the banter and adventure 👌🏼

I want to give this book 5 stars, but at times it was a bit slow and I wasn’t really feeling like picking it up again. But when I did pick it up eventually I was very quickly immersed in the story again. Oh and I teared up a couple of times. But still… it’s getting a 4.5 rating for now. Might change later. Oh and I might write more of a review 😅
