This was good in the way it challenged me, was good writing, and fun to read a translated dark novel. About nature, humanity, justice.

I think I would bump this up in stars if I reread it. I say that because there was quite a bit of background info given about the characters and their families. Which, it is a theme woven throughout of family & inheritance, but it was harder to focus on while reading than Vonnegut’s other novels. I love his writing and I really did enjoy this one. Money is a huge focus and it’s a commentary on greed. Wholesome ending and some great KV quotes throughout.

Not my favorite by this author but was a good read. Good sports story with a blend of non sports-related plot. I did not enjoy the halfhearted attempt to add in Spanish and the fact TJR is a white woman writing that perspective.

I enjoyed this, it was cool to see a book set in the 1950s/60s through a 2022-era feminism lens. Quirky novel

As with other TJR books I’ve read, the setting and differing character perspectives mixed with dramatic character dynamics make this enjoyable to read and hard to put down. I liked the family relationships in this one and how it all builds up to the 24 hours before/during/after the party.
The 2 parts felt slightly disconnected or maybe it was that the character build was lopsided— we got to know certain ones more than others but the perspectives were split more evenly. I would’ve liked some of the character stories built out more (Specifically Kit, Hud, and Casey and less of June at the beginning)
Overall def recommend — 4 star because it is pretty lighthearted (of a read, not topic) and will not sit with me as long as some other top tier reads I’ve had.

Solid wholesome novel. Slow at times. I liked the ending— felt like a heartwarming movie I watched with my family when I was younger
