I am so glad we got Arthur early in the series!  I had a feeling when he failed the training but I feel like I would have been less invested in his character if his story had been later in the series.  Also the instances of Anna trying seduce Arthur, while Arthur is doing his absolute best to avoid her were fun.  This might be one of my favorite highland romance series.

I love Erik.  I knew his story was going to be fun because he's just a joker in the group, and just in general seems to be pretty flirty.  Ellie was awesome and their charming highlander and hard to get heroine dynamic was fun.  I have a feeling we won't see much of the wives in the following books, maybe in passing, but that's okay.  Because the bromances and friendships are some of my favorite parts of these books and I'm actually looking forward to the various missions the guard will end up on.  Again, this is the most researched series I've read so far!

When I read the description initially, Highland secret ops sounded very cheesy but I was intrigued anyways.  This is actually probably the most researched highland romance I've read and I really enjoyed it.  I love Tor and Christina seems very sweet.  I'm really looking forward to the rest of the books about the guards.

I'm really glad there will be a spin off for the guards of Clan Ross because towards the end of Clan Ross of Hebrides I really liked Erik and Torac.  I love the switch from the laird's family to the guards.  I really liked Erik and Esme but the conflict between the two did feel a bit repetitive.  But I'm going to read the next book as soon as it comes out for sure. This was a short quick novella and I really enjoyed it!  Not sure how this ties to the rest of the Clan Ross series, but I guess it's a few generations before as it's a prequel.

I really liked Elspeth.  Malcolm was interesting.  Usually the "intimidating" laird, is just intimidating because of his size or because he has rbf, which is weird considering everyone seems to be huge.  But Malcolm being actively scary or ruthless made it so much better.  Interested to see how this clan war is resolved.

Clan wars are always interesting.  But with this particular one I'm kind of annoyed that the family at fault just will not put an end to the war by punishing the one person responsible.  I also don't get how this random third clan is somehow able to make both clans do something.  But Tristan is probably the brother I was most excited for since he seemed the most mellow, and Merida seemed cool.  But a lot of the conflict between couples in this series just seems to boil down to whether the bride is loyal to her birth clan or new clan.  But I guess that's part of the arranged marriage/political marriage trope.

I love Kieran and Gisela.  Love that Kieran wasn't just a pretty face even though it's never not mentioned how ridiculously good looking he is.  I'm actually really glad that it didn't play a huge part in his and Gisela's story.  Gisela is awesome, and I wish we say more of her in the following books.  Good story about revenge, loss, grief, and purpose.

Ruari is my favorite and everyone else is dumb lol.  A bit sad that the part of his past that comes to light kind of just falls to the back burner or had such a short anti climactic conclusion.  But I guess it really aligns with his personality so I can't be mad about it.  Esme was cool but there were times that she could be annoying.  I was actually disappointed in all the wives in this book.  People do reckless things in the name of caring but it just kind of rubbed me the wrong way.  Content warnings for mention of rape, torture, and kidnapping.

Kiethen and Ava aren't my favorite but that might have been because I was expecting Kiethen to end up with Catriona.  My heart broke for Ava, and I'm a bit disappointed that people like Esme weren't more supportive of her when they know the truth.  I was a bit disappointed also that one of the plot lines remained unfinished.  I was also really annoyed that everyone acted as if Esme didn't just make the same exact mistake in the book right before!  Like come on!  Content warning for miscarriage.
