While I liked Christian and Adara I wish the book would just be clear about who or where the characters are from. It was unclear whether or not Adara was Muslim at times but it was clear that she was othered or not European. It also felt like the major conflict loomed up until almost the last chapter before being resolved quickly. The pacing didnt really work for me. I also found myself wanting to know about other characters, like Phantom or Corryn instead.

While I appreciate the authors efforts to write a diverse medieval romance I really struggled with this book after having enjoyed so many others in the series.  Rowena is so unlikeable.  I hate FMCs who embody "not like other girls" as their entire personality and that seemed to be a lot of what Rowena had going for her.  The mystery and intrigue around the larger assassin plot was interesting but didn't really pick up until later in the book, and while the author's note takes a very "both sides" stance around conflict in the middle ages, the actual writing in the book seemed very one sided.  There were also so many mentions of horrific past abuse, so while not explicitly happening on page during the course of this story, I would check content warnings.

While it's not my favorite in the series I did really enjoy Ewan and Nora's story.  I also did not expect a cliffhanger.  While this book could be read as a standalone, it seems that there is a larger plot going forward that will span across multiple books.  I'm sad I'll have to wait so long for Lochlan's story but I can see why as pieces are coming together.  The only other disappointment I have with the series so far is the portrayal of anyone who isn't European.  The "Saracens" were portrayed as cruel animals in Born to Sin and in Taming the Highlander, gypsies were portrayed in a way that exoticized them, or at least sexualized the one woman in the group.  I'm not sure how much it is relevant to the opinions of people in medieval times but reading it gave me an icky feeling.

I was so excited for Sin's book and the story did not disappoint.  I so enjoyed reading Sin and Callie's story.  It was so sweet, and heartbreaking at times, but so so good!  I will probably come back to this one as a comfort read, despite how dark and torturous Sin's childhood was.

I’m really enjoying this series, although I really couldn’t fall in love with Braden. By the end I liked him but I was much more excited for Sin’s story as the book went on. I loved Maggie and parts of the end actually made me disappointed because I wanted more for her! I also wish I could somehow read Robby and Ceana’s story too.

This is my first book by this author, it was recommended to me on tiktok and I so enjoyed this book! I'm excited for the rest of this series, although from the descriptions it doesn't look like the books are related in any way, which is unfortunate because I would love to read about Simon next.  Either way, Draven is a dream and the epilogue made me melt!

I enjoyed this collection, but as far as the Breakbeat Poets series goes, this volume was more challenging for me to get through.  As I'm not a Spanish speaking individual I wasn't prepared for how much spanish would be included in the poems.  So just a heads up to be prepared to really slow down and take your time with this poems, if it's not a language you speak fluently.

I’m looking forward to the final installment in this series. The second volume did a good job of moving forward the plot line without necessarily overwhelming the reader with new and old characters. The artwork is still stunning and the essays included at the end might still be my favorite part. I love the additional cultural context and history for the story.

I went into this pretty sure that Zane and Celeste would be my least favorite couple in the series, but surprise surprise, my heart broke so terribly reading this book for both of them and I was not prepared.  This was a great installment in the series.  It's also the longest book in the series and I was also worried it would drag, but it didn't really.  There was a lot to this relationship and honestly given that there was so much trust that needed to be rebuilt I'm glad the book was longer so that it didn't feel like it just happened overnight.  Or like some switch flipped and suddenly they both decided to suddenly be in love again.

I really enjoyed the first book in this series, even though it was fade to black.  And with the hints at Garrick and Brenna's romance I really thought I would enjoy the second.  Instead I was really disappointed.  I didn't like either MC.  Garrick was self loathing/pitying beyond belief, and it infuriated me every time he blamed Brenna, without any consideration for the position she was in.  Even when he did acknowledge it, he just stubbornly chose to be angry with her?  He is probably the second least likable MMC I have ever read in a highland romance.  Brenna also came across as annoying but she was at least better than Garrick.  The actual plot outside of the romance felt like it was teased or hinted at for far too long and then suddenly and quickly wrapped up.  The pacing of the book felt odd, and with the unliakble MCs, it really just dragged for me.  Will probably revisit the series for Ewan's story, but will probably take a break for something else in the meantime.
