The Lost Laird from Her Past
by Jeanine Englert
mysterious
sad
slow-paced
I really enjoyed the first book in this series, even though it was fade to black. And with the hints at Garrick and Brenna's romance I really thought I would enjoy the second. Instead I was really disappointed. I didn't like either MC. Garrick was self loathing/pitying beyond belief, and it infuriated me every time he blamed Brenna, without any consideration for the position she was in. Even when he did acknowledge it, he just stubbornly chose to be angry with her? He is probably the second least likable MMC I have ever read in a highland romance. Brenna also came across as annoying but she was at least better than Garrick. The actual plot outside of the romance felt like it was teased or hinted at for far too long and then suddenly and quickly wrapped up. The pacing of the book felt odd, and with the unliakble MCs, it really just dragged for me. Will probably revisit the series for Ewan's story, but will probably take a break for something else in the meantime.
