Jesus, so much happens in 5 main issues. Venom vs. Spidy was great. The reveal is a bit obvious with the flashbacks but more so the young Miguel stories. But this is a ton of fun, president doom makes a hello appearance, and I'm really digging this series.

We're now deep into Peter David's Legendary run on the Green Monster and damn, is it fucking good.

This volume starts off with a Bang as we deal with the aftermath of the last Omnibus storyline. For slight spoilers ahead, Marlo faith was left up in the air after Hulk dealt with The Leader. It was a choice he had to make and one he doubted himself. Now we deal with Rick Jones going slightly insane due to the loss of his girlfriend to Hulk and Betty trying to work out their shit, to eventually Hulk taking over the Pantheon.

This section of the Hulk being the leader to the Pantheon is pretty crazy. Watching the Hulk lead ANYONE is insane. But somehow Professor Hulk trying to balance this crazy team out with their own set of issues is wonderful to watch. Rick Jones melodrama storyline, which is pointed out to be melodrama, is also really sweet and a wedding that is too cute for words. Overall we needed this to help balance out the more over the top and epic fights.

On top of that Hulk is trying to deal with, you know it, his anger issues. This leads to eventually boiling over into the Future Imperfect storyline which is easily the stepping block for Hulk to face his true inner issues. This leads to the eventual Fall of Pantheon which is not a spoiler as it's the name of the storyline and trade paperback. It's intense and leaves hulk with a whole new status quo by the end.

The very last part of the book is more Betty and Banner (as professor hulk still) trying to hide from people and live their life independent of all the superhero mumble jumbo. It's a nice change of pace for Peter David to go in and leaves for some great one shots or two parters. Overall this is a lot of fun for being different than the rest.

There's a bunch of great issues here but this is also over a 1000 pages so got some duds. The worst offender for me was probably the mystical god storyline with Loki. Just boring and felt overly long and out of place with the rest of the volume. There's one or two single issues too that failed to stick the landing but they were here or there.

The strongest volume yet for me in this 5 book collection for Peter David. While volume 1 was a 3.5, and volume 2 was a 4, this is a 4.5 out of 5 for me. Some of the best Hulk stories I've ever read are placed in this book. So if you're a hulk fan, do yourself a favor and start reading this!

A great start to the new Fantastic Four series.

It's just so nice to have heartfelt, touching, and well crafted stories again for FF4. The first 3 issues have everyone separated and building a suspense of what happen. Ben and Alicia are in a weird time loop, Johnny is by himself trying to do the right thing, Sue and Reed are trying to fix what happened. All eventually lead to the team back together and as a family once more but not without having to save the world.

At times it gets a little to "explaining the problem while we sit here" and can get boring. However, when it's the family working together, or as a couple, mixed with the EXCELLENT art, I mean just stunning at times, this series is so special. It's been a long time since I enjoyed a FF4 story this much. A 4 out of 5.

Series like this make me so glad to see Scott Snyder outside of DC Comics clutches and back to writing comics he loves.

This is about a group of ladies, prisoners, who try to stop forest fires or settle them or control them. And while out one day one of the crew members, a newer girl, mentions a home not too far from here that has a ton of money they can rob. And their leader of the group Ma, reluctantly goes along with it because this money can change A LOT of their lives.

This is a nice twisted, turny, everyone gets screwed, dark fucked up heist that I love. It moves quickly, you get just enough backstory of everyone, and the art intensives the action. I will say the ending is kind of up in the air, I'm not sure how I feel, but everything else I was into. A 4 out of 5.

I forgot just how great Miles origins is.

One I love how young he is, not even in High School yet. He gets these powers and has to figure out if he wants to use them or stay hidden thanks to being scared what the public might thing. A couple of issues in he's witness to the death of Peter Parker which happened prior to this series but we see it in Miles point of view. Miles semi-blames himself for this and decides to become Spider-Man in his own way.

It's fun, quickly paced, Miles is a great lead, and Ganke is a great side-character. Miles parents are interesting as well as his uncle for being a shady character. The art is wonderful with some uplifting scenes of saving people as well as taking down crime.

Everything just works really well as a origin story but also just a uplifting superhero comic for a whole new generation. A 4.5 out of 5.

Things heat up as Miles gets stuck inbetween being a hero and maybe having to work for his crooked Uncle.

Aaron, Aka the prowler, heads into Mexico to meet up with The Scorpion, not the clone of Peter Parker, but a lethal crime boss. He backstabs him and escapes but the Scorpion does not forgive and forget and begins to hunt Aaron. At the same time Miles is trying to get a hold on his powers, saving people, but when his uncle comes to him knowing the truth things get messy.

Just like the first volume, the second builds upon Miles origin and helps flush at the side characters around him. Everyone is giving time to help build up Miles own villains while having to worry about the different parts of Miles family members. It all accumulates to Miles having to make a grand decision that'll affect him forever.

Art is still great. Storytelling is great. This is Bendis channeling his best work for Spidy. A 4.5 out of 5.

As you can probably tell with my individual volume ratings that I really enjoyed 80% of Spider-Man 2099.

Prior to this reading I'll be honest, my Miguel knowledge was very limited. I knew him from basically the video game edge of time, and then here or there has guest appearance in other comics. This was the first time I got to sit down and invest in the character and I'm very glad I did.

See Miguel is not your typical Spider-Man hero. He's a smart mouth, kind of assholeish main lead, who is also a genius. And when he's poisoned by his boss that makes believe he gave him a drug he'll get hooked on forever, he decides to do something drastic like inject something inside him that'll fix that. But when a jealous co-worker wants revenge he instead injects Miguel with the project they've been working on to give similar powers as Spider-Man. But this project has killed multiple men prior and Miguel would be the next to die.

But he didn't. Instead he morphed into a man with razor sharp nails and teeth, almost vampire like. Far scarier than most Spider-Man characters. Miguel had no interest being a hero but thanks to the company he worked for, he couldn't let them do all their shady shit. So he decided to break them down from the outside, while at the same time dealing with villains, and try to help the downtown levels of New York where the poor and broken lived.

Peter David is smart on giving Miguel his first arc of dealing with basically a non-stop chase against him to eventually meeting up with a future version of The Vulture who Miguel finds out eats people. So Spidy and him go at each other while the city goes wild, leaving only one victor, and one dead. This sets the tone, and overall feel to Spider-Man in such a marvelous way that I can't help but give tons of credit to. Miguel is a more lethal, if you have to die you have to die, type hero that I absolutely love and makes sense in this darker and morally gray world they all live in.

There is a 5 part cross over around the first third of the book that does go on way too long and drag down the overall enjoyment for me. It's basically "Thor" rebirth or so they say and Spidy, X-Men, Dr. Doom and more have to team up to stop the mighty Thor. It's kind of silly, dumb, and the issues outside of Spidy and Doom are pretty horrible if I'm being honest. This one was a little rough to get through.

Luckily we pull back out and get multiple good arcs and one shots after. Interesting enough we start to dig into Miguel's childhood at the end of each issue giving us usually a 6-7 page special. It helps build up Miguel's backstory while also helping us understand character introduced later.

On top of that the side cast is really wonderful. From Miguel's soon to be wife Dana, to Xena, to his brother, everyone gets to shine in new and exciting ways each arc. Probably one of my favorite side cast his Miguel's mother, who's both crazy, and super fun. Easily one of the best parts of the books for me and she effects the overall plot in major ways.

As we tackle this huge book we do start to build up more and more plot lines and twist. And a lot of the twist are effective. A lot of the deaths actually hit home. I will say the introduction of Venom was well done, and while the reveal obvious, was a nice strong arc. We then introduce Green Goblin and while not as strong twist, I felt like we were building up to something major that could really effect the cast.

But sadly it feels like Peter David got short notice that 2099 would be ending because while few plot points wrap up there's like 5 or 6 that didn't. Left open ended. And sadly after this, there's not much more 2099 till later 2000's and from what I understand that's Miguel stuck in the present time, not the 2099 time period.

But plotlines left unanswered and a pretty meh crossover can't stop the overall amazing character work that Peter David put in Miguel. On top of that the art is freaking fantastic, the first 25 or so issues being done by Rick Leonardi, and other artist later come on board to also help build this fantastic future like world that somehow works so well in a cyberpunk like setting.

Overall, Spider-Man 2099 is very much worth a read. I never know if I'll like something I don't know much about, but similar to The Question I read last year for DC, sometimes a unknown helps when reading something like this for the first time and loving 80% of it.

Seeing as the Ultimate Universe shrunk a lot after ultimatium, any event for the universe had Miles in it. Luckily Divided we Fall United we Stand is a solid crossover for miles.

It starts with Miles dealing with the aftermath of his uncle and their actions. Miles doesn't have much time to figure things out as he meets May, Gwen, and MJ before getting twisted up in the world of Hydra invading America. Leaving Miles to have to work with most superheroes, including Captain America and the Ultimates.

This one is even quicker paced than last two volumes with heavy on the action. And while Divided we Fall is solid it's not a grand event or amazing, but Miles growth here, and him dealing with the Trauma is great, as well as him dealing with what happened to his Uncle and his dad. So much good stuff here, even if it feels a little too crossover heavy at times.

Basically just three different stories but all the same result.

Ultimates focuses on Cap's view on Hydra invading and America asking him to step up. So much in fact he becomes the president of the United States. Ultimate Spider-Man deals with Miles scared out of his mind after what happened to his Uncle but also wanting to help people including Cap and the Ultimates. And last but not least is Kitty trying to become a central focus for the X-Men if you can even still call it that.

ultimates is the weakest story, with heavy exposition and news reports that take away from the overall message. Cap is written well enough, and the banter is decent, but the overall storyline drags on. X-Men feels the most disconnected but helps grow Kitty in interesting ways and the dialogue between the team is great, the action is okay. Miles is the best of the bunch, giving both great action and some really good character growth for the hero.

Overall a decent event, and one you can read by itself, but also the fact you must read each story after already finishing the entire first perspective story takes away the punch and surprise of the storyline.

Absolutely one of my favorite Miles Arcs.

Basically Venom returns and he's seeking Spider-Man. He wants to be with him once more. However, thanks to a reporter, venom goes after Miles Dad instead since he was framed as the new Spider-Man. This leads venom to attack Miles and his family at their home and Miles fights back. Which is a big fucking brawl that's great to look at but then it carries all the way to a hospital where something extremely tragic happens.

This is easily one of my favorite volumes because the desperation and quick thinking by Miles make this exciting and brutal. The art is great, the fights look fantastic, and the end result is super sad but sets up Miles in a new and interesting way.

Yeah this is easily one of my favorite volumes in the whole Ultimate Spider-Man line. A 5 out of 5.
