I'd probably go with a 3.5 in the end.

This is basically a standalone story for Superman New52. So you don't really need to read anything prior to this to enjoy it. You get a information dump the first two issues, which is a lot to digest (and where my negative points show) because it's a bore to read through some of these pages. A lot of exposition. Which is odd since Snyder doesn't do that with Batman.

The good part of the story comes in with Wraith and Superman talking. Different views, despite them both being good people, wraith follows orders, Superman does his own thing, yet you get to see who the "true" hero really is. I liked their back and forth. I also enjoyed getting to see a small moment in Clark's life as a boy. So those story moments worked.

Also I love the art here. I know some don't like his style but this and Hush are some of my fave art for comics. So for me, it works real well. The art looks amazing when fighting too, the coloring is also top notch.

The bad comes down to bogged down story with too much talking, and a neat ending, when it deserved to be deeper, or bigger, or maybe both. Overall a entertaining Superman story for sure, better than 80% of the Superman run, which is pretty sad, but a well done "Superman" story where get to see the Man of Steel in action.

I'm enjoying this series more I get in to it (same with animal man). Alec is now the Swamp thing, and this mofo ain't fucking around! He became a huge ass green creature of love and he's ready to wreck shit. His fight with the Rot was entertaining (though still don't like the structure of the panels for most part).

I also thought the ending issues should have been integrated into flashbacks. Why were the background stories just stuck into this? It felt so oddly placed, even though they gave more weight to the Rot vs Green it felt so badly placed it took away for me. At first I was even confused at when they took place.

Now the good? The art is fresh still. The story is more focused on showing then exposition is always a plus. The ending got me hyped to read the next volume. I also love the relationship between Alec and Abby because it feels REAL which isn't always easy to translate into comic form.

While still not as great as I hoped it's beginning to pick up steam and get better!

This is a great book for someone who's never read Superman before.

This book goes through Clark first starting his Superman persona and getting the city to learn who he is (and what he stands for). Watching Superman save people, go head to head with Luther, and of course dealing with the inner turmoil of who he is and what he should do. It has all the elements to make it one of the best comics ever.

Except I read better Superman stories this year. Both had a deeper look into life as Clark. Both had broader look into both Superman and Clark. Both leave you with questions yet satisfaction. This story leaves you with satisfaction but it feels very safe. Very very very safe.

The art is also a bit on the mixed side. The backgrounds, some fights, and certain emotions are all well drawn. But a lot of time everyone looks like they're ready to take a shit. It's a odd design and something I couldn't get over.

So it's a solid book for first time Superman readers, but there is better.

More goodness. Better than the last volume, not as good as volume 1. However, Kane is a fucking great character.

The very first issue here was too funny. Basically he learns that he loves a girl, but afraid his past would hurt her, yet thanks to the silliest villain ever and some bull riding he learns love is strong and you must challenge it. Fun times.

Then SS is sent on a mission to kill Wolverine. This is a great issue too, mostly to watch him take down nearly the whole X-Mansion. Fun times, good laughs, and the ending brought Wolverine and Kane to team up...which was kind of boring.

The team up with Superior was interesting but also not that great. It had some interesting concepts about what clones are, and watching Superior Spider-man not give a fuck is always a pleasure. But overall it could have been a better teamup.

On to the final volume!

Peter Parker has gotten his shit together. He owns a big ass business, he has multiple teammates around the world like the Prowler, Miles, Silk, and more. He's not a whiny little brat, he's not a useless genius, no he's actually a smart adult for once.

Except for some slips like his zipper being down.

I figured it out. Dan writes some compelling stories, I usually dig the enemies, and side characters, but I realized he doesn't write a very funny Spider-man. Listen SPider-man is filled with corn, but he's also very funny at times, and Dan to me never writes funny lines for Peter. He writes a serious Spider-man well, a good Peter when he's acting like his age, but not a very funny Spider-man. Like at all. I didn't laugh, WHY AM I NOT LAUGHING!?

It's a decent volume and some cool ideas, but Spider-man comes across dull, and the fights uninspiring. For a start it's not bad, but for some reason I'm not all that excited for future volumes. We shall see! A 2.5/3.

I read the first Dark Tower ages ago. I thought it was just okay. I didn't like the style it was written, sometimes very confusing, and overall boring. However, due to my buddy Jimmy, I finally read the second Dark Tower book years later.

And guess what? I liked it!

Roland was the one interesting character in the first book and he remains fun here. He's the straight edge, badass, old Clint Eastwood type hero. You also have Eddie, who's a young druggie who learns the way of life the hard way. You also have Adita, who has split personality and makes her extremely interesting.

A lot of what I loved is spoilers. Certain things that happen would spoil the experience. I will say I love the idea of Roland going through different time periods to recruit people to head to the Dark Tower. So interesting to see different people from different times all interact, it's a huge plus for me.

I also loved the first 2/3rds of the book. I was engaged, never wanting to stop reading. However the last third wasn't as good. Some cool moments, one involving a gun shop, but the rest was just okay. It felt sluggish, added filler.

Still, a much better book than the first. A good narrative, easy to understand, and well formed characters with development.

I have mixed feelings on this one.

Hated the very last issue. Well not hated, just felt rushed and not well handled.

Loved the kraven moments, it really brought some consequences to Kaine being Kaine.

This is a series I still very much recommend even though I felt it went out on a whimper. The comedy is pure gold, some very funny moments, enough to make me actually laugh out loud. Kaine is a great character, funny, and his fights are mostly a lot of fun. The art is solid, and although the change hurts it some, it stays well done.

So we get Kraven wanting revenge on Kaine. It's both nail biting cause he has all of Kaine's friends trapped and ready to die. This isn't a mainstream series and truly anyone of these characters could die at any moment. So that portion of the story was a ton of fun because it had a lot of heart.

I hoped for more in the end, for the very ending, but still a very fun series. Go check it out!

This was a decent fun read. I liked the idea of this, even if I don't believe in any Religion, it's always interesting to see how they work. The idea this kid is Jesus reincarnated is cool and when he starts doing magical things people shut up and start to believe.

The big TWIST was VERY obvious, but mostly due to me always assuming there's going to be a twist...which there was...which I guessed.

Also Millar is a fun writer, so the dialog feels mostly natural, though no cunt word thrown around put me in a bit of a shocked state. Had to double check this was Mark writing.

If want a fun, short, and interesting read try it out. I think most people will at least enjoy it.

I've been talking to people, letting them know if my comic ever got going and I was approached by DC to take on a character it would be Tim. Not because I love him, but because I believe he hasn't been all that interesting of a character in anything I read. (If you want to hear more about my pitch let me know! I'll post it/PM you!)

However, this is the first Tim-only story I read, and I actually dug it!

So Tim is lost. His parents are dead, Dick took on Damien as the next Robin, and he is the only person to believe Bruce is still alive. So he goes on a search to find him. On the way he's approached by Assassin's hired by none other than Ra. Whom also believes Bruce to be alive and tells Red Robin to join him so they can find him together.

It's really interesting to see Tim's inner turmoil. I feel for the guy. He's a young adult/teenager trying to find his place in the world. He won't give up on Bruce because Bruce wouldn't give up on him, and that's something special. I also enjoy the main storyline and a few twist here and there keep it fresh.

If you want a pretty darn good Red Robin story this is the one to grab. Reading volume 2 very soon.

I'd honestly give it a 3.5 but since I enjoyed it more than disliked it, I'ma throw up that 4 star.

So why did this work better than volume 0? Easy. It gave us a lot more of the positives I talked about in the first zero volume.

Gwen's interaction with her father, with Cap, with Harry are all well done. The best though is the conversation with Spider-women. She's been in it forever, the marvel universe, and it's nice to see Gwen new to this getting advice. Also the dreaded question, how was Gwen in the normal 616 universe. They handle that well.

Also the art is a nice upgrade. Everything looks solid, much better overall. The fights are also more excited, and watching the flashbacks don't look like a bunch of colors popping out at you to annoy the shit out of you.

The two negatives are Gwen isn't funny, or Spider-gwen isn't funny when in costume. There's no need to make her throw out jokes, she isn't Peter, she shouldn't act like him. The jokes almost never hit and easily the worst part of her character. Also one odd issue has terrible art, feeling very out of place, compared to the clean and nicely done 5 other issues.

So a nice upgrade from the last and will continue to read.
