Winter Soldier arc wraps up in a fucked up but very satisfying way.

Steve gets the information that'll change his life. First questioning almost everything his mind is telling him. Facing off against Bucky again and still not believing that's his best friend. From the moments Bucky goes "Who the hell is Bucky" we know Steve isn't going to handle this well. Once Nick Fury starts to tell Steve the truth he still doubts it. When handed information about Winter Solider and his uprising, he still doubts it but he now knows it is true. This is Steve at his most vulnerable and only with the help of his friend Sam, his Ex-girlfriend, and Nick Fury, is he able to do anything about it.

Much more personal that you'd expect, Brubaker nails the emotions for the hero. His flashbacks mixed with his feelings towards facing off against his best friend once more is tough. The ending and what he does too is everything you expect from Captain America and leads to so many interesting turns. The art is great with some fantastic fight sequences, one especially badass one on the final issue. Winter Solider isn't only one of Cap's best stories, it's one of the greatest arcs in super hero medium.

A easy 5 out of 5 and can't wait to read on.

This is basically a commentary on retcons and relaunches but it somehow all works.

Dr. Manhattan goes through various timelines, multiverses, and tries to piece together what makes Superman special. It's kind of amazing how you see Dr. Manhattan start to change things, try to fix things in his liking, but there's something he can't figure out. Hope. The final two issues are gonna be big and you can feel it. A 4.5 out of 5.

Man, I just couldn't get into this one.

So let me say I never played DnD and never really wanted to. It's just not my thing. This series is basically if DnD became a reality and you had to survive it.

So years ago a bunch of kids get sucked into this DnD world. Once there horrible things had happen and they come back to the real world a few years later. Then a time skip happens, they all become adults, and get sucked back into the game. The tale begins to flip flop from the past, the present, and a little in between.

Nothing is interesting though. Everything is explained to you but none of it is remotely fun. The dower storytelling makes this a bore, with dread all around but none of it at all interesting. The fights are kind of cool thanks to the art, but even the art is filled with depression. Yes...the art feels depressing.

So yeah...I was bored and had no urge to read this past issue 5. This is a mega-pass for me.

This re-read for American Vampire has been a nice surprise. I'm really digging it so far.

This is broken into two stories. The first is all about Skinner hunting Henry as he goes into a special unit in war. This unit is made to hunt down vampires. Skinner tags along to try and take out Henry but of course, we meed a new breed of vampires, and they might even be worse than American Vampires. The next story is about Felicia and Cash on a undercover mission to try and get the cure for vampires. This is more of a stealth like story with a big blow out ending.

The funny thing is both are build up stories. Both start off a bit slow though I will say the first story picks up faster with some great moments and a perfect ending. The second story, while not as good in pacing, and takes a bit to grow, the ending is a great moment too. Both build up to solid endings with satisfying conclusions, art great as always, and all pretty damn interesting.

A nice 4 out of 5 for this volume.

Man oh man....I want to love this but...

Listen. Justice League isn't that easy to do. I've read about 6 runs now and they range from pretty good to downright terrible. Snyder's run isn't the worst or anything but it's a shame that a guy who can create some of my favorite comics (Black Mirror, New52 Batman, American Vampire) is writing this. I just don't get the change in style.

This is basically another volume in which most of the league is split up and having their own stories told. This takes a look at the less popular members. My personal favorite, hawkgirl and hawkman. I'm joking. I fucking hate these two. Not just in this run but for the most part. These two are NEVER interesting, least from what I read, and they get 2-3 issues dedicated to them. We also get a issue with Lex and Martian Manhunter, lex and joker, and lex and braniac.

A surprise is the Lex and Joker issue was pretty fun. I liked the twist and turns on that one. And...

That's it. The rest is exposition heavy as possible, which I'll be honest, made me very sleepy half way through the volume. I also couldn't stand anything with Hawkgirl here. The stuff with Martian and Lex had moments but the ending came off flat. The annual sucked.

Overall...not sure what's happening with this series. I wish Snyder went smaller, personal, and gave us more fun, instead of this "giant" scope which feels too similar to Hickman's Avengers but missing the epic moments. A 2 out of 5.

Been so long since I read the last volume but I remembered the heartbreaking final issue in the last volume and was a bit worried this volume couldn't deal with the fallout. Luckily, 90% of it did.

Buddy is trying his best to deal with the death of someone close to him. The first issue is long, but very well done, and deals with grief in one of the best ways I've ever seen if I'm being honest. Then the next issue is about Buddy doing a movie, and it feels very close to his life, with a few changes, and now he's in the spotlight again. While that's happening his daughter is dealing with traveling the Red and on a mission.

This whole volume is both well written, respectful to people who have lost before, while also setting up the next superhero adventure. The ending was probably the weakest part but everything else leading up to it worked well. The art is solid for this style and hits home with emotions.

I can't wait to read the fifth and final volume is this series as it's only gotten better and better last two volumes.

This was painful to get through. Bad plot. Bad dialogue, nothing like I would expect from the guy who wrote the pretty damn good green arrow.

This is one of the oddest ideas ever, yet it worked out pretty damn well.

So this is a lot about comic conventions. I've been to them as just a viewer/buyer, and also as someone who set up shop to try and sell my comic. They're both fun and stressful at times. People look past you to buy cheap shit, and garbage, instead of giving the time of day to view hard working comics people make with blood sweat and tears. This story gives some spotlight on that but quickly turns into a spy mission. Our main character is approach by a woman who buys a lot of his stuff and then uses him to go undercover to get information from another artist that'll help save the world.

It's a interesting idea and a lot of it works. It's both interesting and funny. Bendis does his signature back and forth but it actually works for the majority of the plot. It's told through context of doing these conventions. Also, the art is great. Mack does an amazing job of giving multiple styles in one book and you got to love it. The stories does drag at one or two points in issue 4 and 5 but the ending wraps it up nice.

If want something different I'd strongly recommend this. A 4 out of 5.

This is a step back from the last two volumes.

Mostly a bunch of one shots of the DMZ city but none of them are all that compelling. We go into the life of a warlord, or gang leader, or whatever you want to call him. We also get a look at a character from volume 3 and how she is surviving the streets. The other issues focus on a news reporter Matty knew, and how she died.

Overall, none of these are bad but none very interesting. Probably the best was the news reporter but even that wasn't all that interesting. I really enjoyed volume 3 and 4 and hope 6 picks back up, but this is about a 3 out of 5.

Only Brubaker could have almost two full issues without Captain American there after the comic being CALLED Captain America.

Saying that, it works for the most part. This gives a big look into Crossbones, a crazy piece of shit, and his new girlfriend Sin (Who is Red Skull's daughter). Together they begin their spree into murdering people and stealing shit. Getting Caps attention and doing horrible things. The 2nd half is Cap and his girl going off to find Bucky while also trying to stay on Crossbones trail.

This isn't as big and epic as Winter Solider storyline but it works in a lot of ways. Basically giving us a deep look into the villains as well as a more laid back Steve. The relationships are meshed well and show the contrast between a somewhat healthy one and an insane one. On top of that the ending build up is pretty great. The one off backstory is okay, not really that interesting, but for Bucky fans it's worth reading. A 3.5-4 out of 5.
