A weird, dark, and extremely interesting look into multiple themes and subjects ranging from violence, rape, heroism, and more.
The opening of the book is basically a woman getting attacked by a couple of low lives but Maxx, the big dude with giant teethes, stops them. After that we're introduced to Julie who's been through some shit herself. A social worker who tries to help people, but in a way uses them as a way to fight her internal thoughts and mindset. A complex story without a doubt, with a bit of superhero and supernatural twist on top of it.
Good: Liked the art a lot. Looks different, weird as hell, yet really 90's but in a good way. The dialogue is strong, feels fresh, and also a lot of interesting themes and topics from multiple people. I loved the last issue the most. While issue 1-3 are strong, they have a couple of issues. Issue 4 really shows how powerful this book can be.
Bad: Didn't love the villain. I got what he stood for and meant, but a little too in your face at times. Pacing can also be too quick at times.
Overall, really interesting, trippy, and fucked up comic. The more I read the more I wanted. I'll be checking out volume 2. A 3.5 but I'll bump it to a 4.

This is like closing out the pieces left after Fugitive more than the main storyline.
So we have Bruce trying to free Sasha after her still being in prison. So after getting badly injured it looks like she might be dead...but is she? Checkmate comes into play in this chapter as Batman tries to clean up the mess. By the end we also close up Batgirl's part in it all and her relationship with her father, which I read in Batgirl anyway.
Good: Enjoyed the stuff with Sasha. Watching Bruce care but not able to do much to change anything is both sad and interesting. I also really liked anything with Batgirl but cass is my favorite girl EVER. The art is also solid.
Bad: Feels like a close out chapter. A extra chapter. I also didn't like the middle chapter...it's boring.
Overall, a good closing, but not great. A 3 out of 5.

I believe this is Judd Winick's very first superhero story he had written. It's kind of fun to go back to when writers began after reading a lot of their most famous work. So his Green Lantern, staring my favorite green Lantern Kyle, worth reading?
The story starts simple enough. Kyle lands a awesome job that he's always wanted, a cartoonist at a big paper. Of course, his life isn't so simple. Soon after the manhunters come down and grab the green lantern and bring his ass to space for some torture. After that arc we have one of a craze green lantern go bad and now using the yellow ring. Kyle calls upon the Justice League in his time of need and it all comes to the clash of gods verse a crazed person.
Good: Love Kyle. The dude is just a regular guy trying to do his best. Also, due to having a huge imagination, the things he forms to fight are great. Hell, at one point he summons Gamera. It's so cool. The art also stays up for the most part. The fights can be super epic too which is nice. I also like seeing John being a mentor in a lot of ways it works better for his character.
Bad: The love angle storyline is okay. Nothing special but it's building towards something nice. The backgrounds are just okay, weakest part of the art. Nothing feels huge in stakes so far.
Overall, fun adventures with my favorite Lantern. Will read more since Judd has a way to have fun dialogue even with okay plots. A 3 out of 5.

I love the concept here but it was WAY to long winded. I just couldn't get into the characters or their personal demons (Which were many.) I enjoyed the art but didn't love it. Overall...didn't work for me. But I'll check out more Sebela work!
Another long winded comic I just couldn't get with. So much unneeded internal dialogue I was bored to tears by the half way point. I love dialogue but mundane dialogue while contributing nothing to the scene has GOT to go.
The last volume of Fantastic Four was amazing due to great family drama, action pieces, big storylines coming together. This is a little bit of a relaunch in a way but a continuation no doubt.
Reed as gotten together the greatest minds in the universe. It just so happens to be a lot of villains have the best minds in order to stop the threat coming. It was actually Val who began to set this plan in motion. Watching the Foundation work together to stop evil reed army is a great idea for a plot. Next up we have the Thing dealing with the fallout of losing a friend. We have Spider-man trying to fit in with the family as a member. So much going on that you can't help but be invested after all the build up.
Good: The art is fantastic. Really showcases some great emotional moments and facial expressions. The effects are fantastic with the big fight scenes. Evil reed army is such a cool idea, it makes for a super exciting future. Doom as part of the fighting force is both funny and scary. Susan is such a badass here. Spider-man is a fun addition. Poor Grim I feel so bad for. So many great plot threads.
Bad: Some of the exposition is very heavy. Lot of crazy themes happening and one thing is sometimes Hickman doesn't really explain what time period we are currently in. So pay attention haha.
Overall, great. A awesome followup to the last volume which was amazing. I need more of this! Please stay this good!!!

Whoa, after crappy book after crappy book it's nice to get something decent. I thank Christos Gage for that.
So what's it about? Spider-man is working with Ulysses to try and see how to use his powers for good. While Ulysses is only in the first issue and a half, his dynamic with Spider-man shows the type of person Peter is. When The Clash (A super villain I never heard of) is visioned to go bad once more Peter has to decide how to handle this. Will him pushing himself into Clash life make him go super villain again or will it stop him. That is the question presented here.
Good: The art is pretty solid and some really good fight scenes. I also liked Peter in here because he's conflicted. Not about some big CEO meeting or anything, just his personal issues, and trying to do what's right and not sure how to do it. Clash also made for a pretty interesting story about redemption.
Bad: But I didn't love the ending of what happen with Clash. Also, the last two issues are thrown into this collection for no other reason than to beef it up, and they suck.
Overall, a 2.5 out of 5, but I'll bump it to a 3 just because was enjoyable enough.

Ultimate Comics Wolverine: Legacies
Javier Tartaglia, David Messina, Cullen Bunn, Ramon Rosanas, Gary Erskine, Gaetano Carlucci, Clayton Cowles, Joe Caramagna
Jesus, am I on a run of shitty books or what?
After a solid Uncanny X-Men volume and a great creator own series called Harrow County, I went into Ultimate Comics Wolverine with a little hope. It's about Jimmy, who I actually think is kind of cool. I like Wolverine having a kid who isn't like Draken. However, this story jumps from Wolverine's time as a asshole to Jimmy trying to find out more about who Wolverine is and maybe even have family members he never knew about.
Good: The art is pretty good? Also, Jimmy isn't a bad character but...
Bad: The story is beyond shitty here. I hated, hated, HATED the plot twist going on here. To have Quicksilver and Jimmy be related (Screw it, you aren't going to read this) is dumb as hell. The wolverine segments are boring and not really worth your time. Honestly, this whole book is kind of a waste of time.
This is pretty awful. Cullen Bunn is a very capable writer, but this isn't it. A 1 out of 5.

Update review: Well, it's still not great, but I was more intrigued with this volume than the last two. This time I'll go past this volume to see if I like the second half of this series more. Still a 3 out of 5.
This is the last volume I'll be reading of this series. I just felt like the creator had a more fun idea with Hack/slash which is what made me pick this one up. This series is good, for what it is. Solid art as well. It just doesn't grip you the same way and I find it boring to finish. Sorry, this one is being placed to the side.

Maybe because I wasn't expecting much but this was damn fun.
So this starts off with Adam Warlock being reborn! After years of being out of the picture he returns, but then is return to the past to figure out what to do next. Trust me, it somehow all makes sense. Next up this is a sequel to Gerry Duggan's awesome Guardians of Galaxy run and so we pick up where we left off. Drax protecting a stone, Gamore, Quill, Groot, and the rest taking on the baddies, and of course Nova and the corps doing what they have to do to survive this war.
Good: Lots of nice surprises. Some big characters return to the fray in this big volume. I really enjoyed EVERYTHING with the guardians. Some new team members get to shine, a evolution of one, and some laugh out loud moments. The art stays good throughout (besides the Adam Warlock issue) and I thought the ending set up things to come in REALLY big ways.
Bad: The wolverine issue feels a bit out of place. Like...what the fuck? Is this after the return of Wolverine? Weird. Also, the Adam Warlock issue art is pretty awful.
Overall, great. I think if you're going to do a cosmic event, do it big and fun. This does just that. Can't wait to Infinity Prime! A 3.5-4 out of 5.
